CUNY Administrative Coordinator - CUNY Institute for Health Equity (CIHE) in Bronx, New York


Reporting to the Director for the CUNY Institute for Health Equity, the CIHE Administrative Coordinator will coordinate the Institute's local, national, and international efforts to address health disparities including community outreach, research efforts, fundraising, program development, and the coordination of faculty efforts across CUNY and beyond.

The CUNY Institute for Health Equity (CIHE) addresses gaps in the health status of New York’s underserved ethnic/racial populations. Building on the working relationship that CUNY campuses have with surrounding communities as well as the academic resources of each college, the Institute’s work is to identify and address the social determinants of health that contribute to the high rates of morbidity and mortality among these populations. It is housed on the Lehman College Campus in the Bronx and works closely with all programs and campuses across CUNY. The Administrative Coordinator will work with the Institute Director and staff in the development and implementation of institute goals.

The CUNY Institute for Health Equity's mission is three-fold: 1. To support capacity building among non-profit/community based organizations that are strained to address health problems within their communities, and thereby enable them to better serve and advocate for their communities; 2. To provide learning opportunities for students preparing them to address and work toward health equity, while making contributions to the community; and 3. To facilitate and strengthen multidisciplinary cooperation and health equity research within the CUNY community and beyond.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate the CUNY Institute for Health Equity program: community outreach, research efforts, fundraising, program development, and the coordination of faculty efforts across CUNY and beyond.

  • Collaborate with the campus-community partnership: orientation, forays, activities, workshops, etc.

  • Assist Director on office management, budget, strategic planning, advisement, program development, and assessment. Team with staff on research, community capacity building, knowledge transfer and other activities.

  • Assist Director with communication with other departments, schools, and colleges.

  • Provide outreach to stakeholders across CUNY.

  • Assist with supervision of the Institute staff.

  • Serve as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures.; make recommendations for improvements on office operations.

  • Prepare analytical and statistical reports for management.


Bachelor's Degree required.

A preferred candidate should have:

  • Programmatic experience in areas related to health equity and social justice

  • Administrative experience in a non-profit and/or higher education organization

  • Knowledge of research methods, grant writing, and program development/implementation

  • Evidence of professional interest and commitment to addressing the needs of underserved populations and community-based organizations that work with these populations

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in organizational collaboration across various sectors

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

  • Ability to work in a setting where teamwork and cooperation are highly valued

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population

  • Ability to problem-solve


Supports projects, initiatives, and activities that impact an academic or administrative department.

  • Manages basic office functions such as communications, meeting schedules, work plans, staff assignments, and distributing information.

  • Collects data for, prepares, and distributes reports and presentations using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

  • Updates office databases, lists, and files to ensure completeness and accuracy; maintains current information on department web site(s); maintains department archives and collections.

  • Conducts internet and/or database research and performs basic systems queries to locate information related to department activities.

  • Maintains department fiscal plans and budgets; assists in budget administration and invoice processing.

  • Provides basic information, instructions, and materials as requested by students, faculty, and others who contact the department.

  • May supervise office staff and student workers.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
