CUNY Assistant or Associate Professor - Mathematics and Computer Science in Bronx, New York


The Lehman College campus is located in Bronx, New York and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only four-year public college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution. The college serves mainly undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study. The teaching load is 21 hours (7 courses) per year and although the college is predominantly teaching focused, faculty at Lehman are active in research, scholarship and creative works. Service to the college, university and community is part of the mission as is a clear commitment to student engagement including advisement. Teaching is reduced for junior faculty over the first five years for scholarly development and all faculty are actively encouraged to seek external funding. Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship support.

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professorship beginning Fall 2017 for the newly forming Department of Computer Science. Candidates must have a strong research record and a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

All areas of Computer Science will be considered, but particular attention will be given to candidates pursuing research in Computer Systems, Parallel Systems, Parallel Programming, Data-centric Computing, Databases and Data Mining, Cyber Security, Privacy, Cloud Computing, Embedded Systems, and Computer Graphics.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in computing; engage in high caliber research leading to competitive grants and publications in refereed journals and conferences; advise students; provide service to the department, college, university, and community, i.e. committee, administrative, supervisory. and other assignments normally associated with a full-time tenure-track academic appointment; and evening teaching may be required.

Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.


Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or a related academic field is required on commencement of the appointment. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Preferred Qualifications: Proof of published or publishable scholarly work. Strong academic and professional references. Evidence of excellence in teaching. Effective oral and written communication skills.


Salaries are commensurate with education and experience.
