CUNY Faculty Open Rank - Recreation (Health Sciences) in Bronx, New York

The Lehman College campus is located in Bronx, New York and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only four-year public college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution. The college serves mainly undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study. The teaching load is 21 hours (7 courses) per year and although the college is predominantly teaching focused, faculty at Lehman are active in research, scholarship and creative works. Service to the college, university and community is part of the mission as is a clear commitment to student engagement including advisement. Teaching is reduced for junior faculty over the first five years for scholarly development and all faculty are actively encouraged to seek external funding. Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship support.

The Department of Health Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track instructor or assistant/associate/full professorship beginning Fall 2017. Candidates must have an active record of research/scholarship/creative works, and a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation and Research Methods, engage in research/scholarship and professional organization, advise students, provide service to the department, college, university, and community (i.e. program coordination, committee, administrative, supervisory, and other assignments normally associated with a full-time tenure-track academic appointment). Evening teaching may be required.

The Recreation Education/Therapeutic Recreation Program in the Department of Health Sciences is one of four departments based in the School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing. The program currently enrolls over 150 undergraduate and 50 graduate students. It has the largest graduate enrollment in therapeutic recreation in the U.S., the only public BS degree programs in Recreation Education and Therapeutic Recreation in New York State within 200 miles of the campus, and only one of two master’s degree programs in the State. The Program enjoys an outstanding reputation as a leader in health professions’ education and research in the region, has an extensive alumni network and close relationships with many professionals and agencies for intern sites, job opportunities for students and graduates, and collaborative endeavors. The program is housed in the College’s state of the art APEX center with access to fitness and sport facilities to enhance teaching and research.
