The Lehman College campus is located in Bronx, New York. and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only four-year public college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution. The college serves mainly undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study.

Under the general direction of the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Student Life Director is a member of the Vice President of Student Affairs Senior Management Team and provides oversight in the areas of the Housing Operations, Divisional Assessment Initiatives, Title IX Education, the Peer Educator Program and other initiatives as outlined below.

The Director assumes special projects as assigned by the Vice President of Student Affairs and organizes and conducts divisional programs and special events. The Director also assists with addressing student concerns and complaints and provides necessary follow up. The Director also facilitates the Dean's recommendation and certification process organized through the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and serves on several committees.

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Student Life Director will be charged with providing leadership for the following services:

  • Supervises and manages department staff ensuring the successful execution of department programs.

  • Directly facilitates and manages all co-curricular student activity programs and events to include registering student organizations, assisting with the creation of new student organizations, and meeting on a regular basis with student organizations to coordinate or co-sponsor campus events.

  • Participates in a rotating on-call role for emergency response and crisis management for student housing during the year including building openings and closings.

  • Directs and assists the administration of the Student Affairs Peer Education Program which includes development of training programs, hiring and recruitment oversight, mentoring student volunteers, and providing feedback.

  • Develops, implements and coordinates campus-wide Divisional educational efforts aimed at the prevention of sexual violence and other forms of sex and/or gender-based discrimination on campus, which includes administrative oversight of the online Haven Program as well as coordinating divisional programming and training, professional development opportunities, and development of Title IX resources and publications.

  • Provides oversight and assistance with the planning and execution of all orientation programming, commencement and convocation.

  • Serves as Chair of the Divisional Assessment Council and serves as the Divisional liaison for communication with the College’s Office of Assessment and Planning. The Director works closely with the Division’s fourteen unit Directors to provide feedback and consultation for their annual assessment projects that impact division-wide decision making and policy.

  • Manages the administration of Tau Sigma National Transfer Honor Society.

  • Represents the Student Affairs Division on the Academic Appeals review committee.

  • Coordinates the allocation and disbursement process for the Student Professional Travel fund and works with the Board.

  • Collaborates with Media Relations and IT to enhance Student Affairs Division social media presence.


  • Bachelor's degree and eight years related experience required; Master’s degree in Student Personnel or related field of study preferred

  • A minimum of eight years of relevant, progressive professional experience required

  • Demonstrated ability as an effective manager

  • Demonstrated success in developing and directing a vital student activities and leadership development program is required

  • Knowledge of budget preparation and management


Directs planning, program development, and administration to support access, retention, multicultural, and other student affairs objectives.

  • Develops plans for, and leads a student development services unit which comprises a variety of services and programs

  • Collaborates with academic affairs professionals and other in supporting retention and building a comprehensive learning environment that fosters the intellectual, psychological, social, leadership and recreational development of a diverse student population

  • Assists senior management in providing leadership, developing policy, conducting strategic planning, and representing student affairs in various professional activities

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the portfolio of student services in supporting divisional and College-wide goals; oversees data collection, tracking, and reporting systems

  • Manages fiscal and human resources; may oversee grant management activities for selected programs

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
