CUNY Assistant or Associate Professor - Chemistry (Tenure Track) in Brooklyn, New York


Medgar Evers College's Department of Chemistry and Environmental Science seeks applicants for a tenure- track Assistant or Associate Professor in Chemistry starting Fall 2017.

The successful candidate will be required to teach undergraduate organic and biochemistry. He or she will implement an active in-house research program and develop courses in Advanced Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry and Environmental Organic Chemistry. The candidate is expected to spin-off new and modern undergraduate laboratory experiments from ongoing research, seek external funding, and assist in the development of innovative undergraduate curriculum and research. Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

The department is equipped with Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS), High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC), an Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP/MS), an Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP/OES), Fourier Transform Infra-red (FT-IR) spectrophotometer, an Atomic Absorption (AA) Spectrophotometer, an XRay Diffraction (XRD) Spectrometer, an Atomic Force Microscope and a 300 MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer. In addition, the facilities include several well-equipped research modules and an environmental testing laboratory. The candidate must be able to add value to our existing facilities by making optimum use of our state-of-the-art analytical facilities and winning research grants for undergraduate research.


Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or related areas with expertise in organic and biochemistry.

  • Publication record demonstrating research potential, commitment, and excellence in undergraduate teaching.

  • Experience with outreach and recruitment activities, teaching and mentoring diverse undergraduate student populations.
