CUNY Legal Affairs & Diversity Coordinator/Paralegal in Brooklyn, New York


New York City College of Technology of The City University of New York seeks applications for a Legal Affairs & Diversity Coordinator/Paralegal. The Legal Affairs & Diversity Coordinator/Paralegal reports to both the Special Counsel and the Chief Diversity Officer/Title IX Coordinator/ADA & 504 Coordinator. The Special Counsel provides legal advice to the College administration, manages litigation and also serves as the College’s Ethics Officer, and Records Access Officer. The CDO/Title IX Coordinator/ADA & 504 Coordinator investigates discrimination matters for the College and reports to the President on such matters. Handles the diversity approval processes and is responsible for filing the College’s annual federal Affirmative Action Plan and its annual Italian American Affirmative Action Plan. As ADA & 504 Coordinator, the CDO also provides appeal level review for the denial of disability reasonable accommodation requests.

The duties and responsibilities of the position will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Respond to records requests in connection with Freedom of Information Law/Act, Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act, subpoenas and other items

  • Assist with performing e-discovery duties in litigation

  • Assist with internal investigations and related tasks

  • Manage/organize case and diversity AAP files, including digitizing records

  • Assist with diversity administrative tasks and tasks associated with the annual AAP filings

  • Assist with drafting memos to internal and external parties

  • Perform legal/other research

  • Performs general administrative/office-related tasks, i.e., scheduling meetings, handling expense reports, ordering supplies, etc.


Bachelor's Degree required.

Other Qualifications:

  • Experience working in the field of employment law, higher education law, litigation, employee relations, or human resources management considered highly desirable

  • Prior experience working in a university setting, with an understanding of the academic recruitment, tenure, and promotion process strongly preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills essential

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a high level administrative team is vital

  • Highly proficient knowledge of MS Office Suite, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word


Provides assistance tracking and processing legal matters of various kinds.

  • Organizes and maintains case or matter files, and all related documentation

  • Assists in preparing for arbitrations and other proceedings

  • Prepares and maintains form documents, such as contracts and specifications; handles the transmittal of same to appropriate parties

  • Assists with legal and factual research, including internet research

  • Maintains the security of highly confidential information as per College and University policies

  • May assist with processing of contracts, affiliation agreements, leases, litigation records and subpoena files, employee and student disciplinary actions, human rights complaints, and other matters

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
