POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Athletic Director, the Student Athletics Program Specialist at Kingsborough Community College will be responsible for the following:

  • Assists athletic director with long / short- term planning, budgetary decisions and implementing strategies.

  • Assists with compliance programs activities required by the CUNYAC (CUNY Athletic Conference) and external bodies.

  • Coordinates with facility manager to arrange facility schedules for practices, games, intramurals and recreation.

  • Develops and implements workshops and services in support of student-athletes and coaches.

  • Directs, monitors and electronically certifies student-athlete eligibility to meet NJCAA deadlines.

  • Encourages coaches to engage teams in volunteer projects and community service projects.

  • Ethically and independently addresses critical situations on a daily basis.

  • Holds individual meetings for each of department’s fifteen teams to educate students and coaches on all NJCAA, Region XV, CUNYAC and KCC Athletics academic and athletic policies, procedures and regulations.

  • Implements and maintains NJCAA policies, procedures and determines student-athlete eligibility.

  • Investigates, evaluates and immediately reports NJCAA violations to the NJCAA national office.

  • Keeps informed of new rule changes by attending yearly NJCAA eligibility seminars.

  • Monitors Title IX compliance.

  • Organizes student-athlete communications and activities, and other department work such as calendars, materials, reports, handbooks, and compliance manuals.

  • Provides advising services, registration workshops and oversees student-athlete study hall program.

  • Provides program management and assists with policy development, hiring, supervision and training of staff.

  • Responsible for entire department NJCAA compliance.

  • Schedules public safety presence at events and ensures all student-athletes, coaches, staff, fans and officials perform their functions in a safe environment.

  • Serves as consultant and advocate for student-athletes through promoting programs, services and college offices available for use.

  • Serves as the liaison between student-athletes, coaches and members of the KCC faculty / staff, CUNYAC, Region XV and the NJCAA national office.

  • Serves student-athletes through providing advising services and enrichment programs

  • Supports the administration of College athletic programs.

  • Tracks and exchanges athletic participation data with transfer colleges and the NJCAA national office.

  • Updates, publicizes, and enforces policies set forth in the student-athlete and coaches manuals.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

Preferred experience working with student athletes, NJCAA, and eligibility requirements.
