CUNY Academic Advisor - New Student Experience Center in New York, New York
College Now is CUNY’s largest collaborative program with the New York City secondary public school system. The program offers dual enrollment and college-readiness programs to students in NYC high schools and enrolls over 20,000 students annually. In all, there are seventeen campus-based College Now programs which are overseen by a central office. The goal of College Now, is to help students meet high school graduation requirements and prepare for success in college, both academically and socially. City College's College Now Program has more than 35 partner high schools and provides their students with academic courses, tutoring, and campus activities.
Reporting to the Academic Resource Center Manager, the Academic Advisor is an integral member of the College Now program. The Advisor will:
Provide outstanding academic and personal advising to College Now students.
Visit partner schools on a regular basis to confer with school staff and conduct advising meetings with students.
Assist in recruitment of students for College Now courses and activities.
Create and maintain electronic/written advising records, and enroll students in the CUNY student information database, CUNYfirst.
Collaborate with school liaisons and guidance counselors to provide comprehensive services to students enrolled in College Now courses and activities.
Work with College Now course instructors to provide students with appropriate academic support.
Compile information gathered at advisement sessions, identify trends and provide reports that may provide insight into rates of student success.
Attend all CUNY-wide College Now meetings and training.
Support the planning, development, and delivery of the College Now Orientation program.
Assist the Director in preparing and writing year-end, and other, reports.
Staff the College Now office on Saturdays during the Fall and Spring academic semesters.
Bachelor's Degree required
Previous experience working with confidential materials and information
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Experience providing support to high school students in a college or university setting
Experience using electronic communication and social media.
Experience with FERPA regulations
Experience working in a Microsoft Exchange environment
Experience with CUNYfirst (Oracle/PeopleSoft)
Fluency with a language in addition to English a plus.

Assists students with clarifying values and goals; counsels students regarding educational options, requirements, policies and procedures.
Offers academic and personal support to guide students through the course selection process
Provides students with effective and timely referral to other college and external support services
Monitors and evaluates students' educational progress by conducting academic progress audits
Establishes and maintains student files, databases and records; prepares activity reports and analyses
May specialize in providing advice on specific programs or to specific student groups
Performs related duties as assigned.
