CUNY Assistant Manager for Student Admissions and Recruitment in New York, New York


The University Admissions Office is composed of two offices, the CUNY Welcome Center and the University Application Processing Center. The CUNY Welcome Center is the central student recruiting office for the City University of New York. The Welcome Center's primary responsibility is to disseminate information about all of the colleges to prospective students. Through extensive outreach efforts and in-house counseling, the staff provides support and guidance to prospective students. Staff members of the Welcome Center work closely with the University Application Processing Center (UAPC) staff to support the University's recruitment, enrollment, and retention efforts.

To support the University’s goals for strategic enrollment management and student success from acceptance through graduation, the CUNY Welcome Center seeks an Assistant Manager for Student Admissions and Recruitment to oversee focused admissions and recruitment outreach efforts, programs, and activities for diverse groups of students including Prospective Freshman, Transfer and Adult students. The Assistant Manager for Student Admissions and Recruitment is public relations savvy and will be responsible for expanding our recruitment territory and/or enhancing CUNY’s visibility within existing markets to increase the number of students applying to and enrolling in a CUNY college. In addition, the Assistant Manager will assist with improving customer service to our applicants and evaluating CUNY application processes. This position reports to the University Director of Recruitment.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise part- and full-time admissions counselors as well as assist with managing the daily operations of the CUNY Welcome Center.

  • Advise and counsel prospective students on academic program options and admissions requirements; communicate information in various ways and formats.

  • Plan and execute recruiting and outreach events, activities, and communication campaigns for specific student populations.

  • Assist with developing metrics and analyzing trends.

  • Use various recruitment analysis systems, programs, and/or tools to assess the efficacy of our recruitment and enrollment efforts from the first year experience through graduation (i.e. College Board EPS/Search, Live Person Statistics, Hobsons CRM Reporting Module, Ruffalo Noel Levitz analysis, etc.).

  • Work with the admissions communications team to develop multimedia communications to serve the needs of our counseling and recruitment efforts.



  • Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.


  • Experience using electronic recruitment and communication systems, databases, and reporting tools.

  • Strong analytical, evaluative, research, critical thinking, and problem solving skills to interpret data and create quantitative and qualitative reports.

  • Detail oriented and accurate with strong organizational skills and ability to establish plans, manage multiple assignments with conflicting priorities, and meet deadlines in a time-sensitive and student responsive office.


Administers central student admissions processes and technologies to ensure compliance with eligibility standards, policies and requirements.

  • Supervises day-to-day operations of admissions services and functions

  • Coordinates collection, analysis, and reporting of relevant data; integrates data from numerous outside sources

  • Maintains and investigates issues with complex admissions/registration systems

  • Compiles and reports statistics on transactions, system performance, and data quality

  • Develops methods to improve quality, productivity and effectiveness

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
