CUNY Associate Director of Institutional Research in New York, New York


The mission of the Office of Institutional Research and Program Assessment is to compile, maintain, and analyze institutional and other data to support the operation, decision-making, and planning functions of Baruch College.

Within the stated mission the goals of the Office of Institutional Research and Program Assessment are:

  • Provide reliable and accurate data for internal and external consumption.

  • Develop evaluation plans and instruments for student learning outcomes assessment.

  • Coordinate external reporting for the College (i.e., US News and World Reports, College Board, and Princeton Review).

  • Conduct predictive modeling using advanced statistical methods, data mining techniques, and machine learning algorithms to support institutional effectiveness.

  • Provide data analytic support for accreditation self-studies (MSCHE, AACSB) and academic program reviews.

  • Create Business Intelligence dashboards to support data-driven decision making.

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Research, the Associate Director will perform the following duties which include, but are not limited to:

  • Designing, constructing, and maintaining several Institutional Research databases and data warehouses used for reporting and data analytics.

  • Assisting the Director in the preparation of correspondence and reports associated with the dissemination of information.

  • Analyzing quantitative and qualitative data and assisting in interpreting the data for presentation to the College community.

  • Managing and training staff as necessary.

  • Participating in college-wide strategic planning, institutional effectiveness and learning outcomes committees.

  • Responding to data, table and reporting requests from college constituencies.

  • Guiding the Office in performing ad-hoc analyses in response to specific needs.

  • Managing surveys, questionnaires and other data-gathering instruments.

  • Coordinating and submitting reports to external agencies and organizations.

  • Representing the department at committee meeting and other events in the absence of the Director.


  • Bachelor's Degree and six years' relevant experience required

  • Master's degree and three years of relevant experience in a relevant social science or quantitative discipline (e.g., Psychology, Social Science Research, Economics, Higher Education Administration, and Applied Statistics) preferred

  • Demonstrated power user of SPSS or SAS that includes syntax writing and the ability to use macros, along with the ability to query large data sets and to analyze complex data sets

  • Demonstrated skills in research methodology, research design and statistical techniques such as Multiple Regression, and Multiple Logistic Regression (e.g., conference presentations, publications)

  • Understanding and adhering to data governance policies

  • Work experience within an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) environment (Oracle People soft preferred)

  • Working knowledge of SQL or Python

  • Knowledge of data mining packages (SAS Miner or SPSS Modeler)

  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team

  • Detailed and accurate in data analysis

  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills

  • Ability to handle tight deadlines, multiple priorities and concurrent projects


Manages College institutional research programs and studies related to the College's mission.

  • Develops relevant, timely and accurate institutional information to administrators, the college community, the external community, and external agencies.

  • Defines and implements research studies, designing and conducting data analyses and analyzing and interpreting results.

  • Researches, develops and recommends policy analyses relevant to anticipated institutional planning, policy, and decision-making needs.

  • Participates in college-wide strategic planning, institutional effectiveness and outcomes assessment tasks.

  • Respond to data, table and report requests from college constituencies.

  • Manage surveys, questionnaires and other data-gathering instruments administered by the Office.

  • Manages a library of institutional planning and research documents.

  • May consult with faculty and students in the design of databases for research projects

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
