CUNY Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness in New York, New York
Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost, the Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness provides leadership and coordination of the college’s activities in the pursuit of academic excellence, student success, and administrative effectiveness.
The Associate Provost chairs the college’s Strategic and Financial Planning Committees, and in that capacity will assess, report on, and improve the effectiveness of all entities. He/she will present institutional and national data to college leadership groups to promote best practices in higher education. He/she ensures the implementation of the college’s Integrated Strategic Plan and works closely with the Vice Presidents, Deans, and Directors responsible for carrying out the plan.
The Associate Provost will integrate assessment, planning, and institutional research to encourage improvement of the college’s academic programs and administrative services and will be expected to inspire and lead the faculty, the Academic Deans, and the Vice Presidents to create a culture of continuous improvement at the college.
Working with the Deans of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies and the Vice Presidents of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, he/she will lead the college in examining and improving retention and graduation rates of all students. He/she will assist departments and academic support units in developing student learning outcomes and appropriate assessment plans for these outcomes.
The Directors of Institutional Research and Assessment report to the Associate Provost, who will be the Provost’s partner in leading the college’s strategic planning process and Middle States re-accreditation reviews. The Associate Provost is a member of the President’s executive team and the Provost’s senior staff. The Associate Provost will act on behalf of the Provost when required, write reports and policy statements, and perform other management and supervisory responsibilities as assigned by the Provost.

The position requires an earned doctorate (or equivalent) with a minimum of eight years of faculty and/or academic administrative/leadership experience and a commitment to higher education in a multi-cultural setting with a mission of both access and excellence.
A minimum of two years as an academic department chair or as an equivalent academic administrator is preferred, as is an academic record consistent with appointment as a tenured faculty member in an academic unit of the college.
The successful candidate will have effective communication skills, exceptional strength in writing, ability to work collaboratively, demonstrated experience in planning and assessment, and experience working with faculty in a shared governance environment.
