POSITION DETAILS

Baruch College’s strategic plan calls for increased visibility, branding, and recognition of the College’s academic programs, educational quality and achievements with key constituencies. Baruch College aims for a local, national, and international reputation and is accomplishing this by implementing a strategic communications and marketing plan that unifies the presentation, messages, and voice of the College’s communications.

The Executive Director of Marketing and Communications will add strategic value to the Office of Communications, Marketing & Public Affairs, which is responsible for the College’s identity and overall communications program. The scope of the office includes publicity; media relations; alumni publications; marketing plans and related collateral material; website design and content; digital communications strategy; graphic design; internal and external communications; fundraising marketing; recruitment marketing; economic development planning; and government relations and community relations. Under the guidance of the Vice President, the Executive Director will help develop, direct, and implement the College’s strategic communications plan for all internal and external constituencies.

The duties and responsibilities of the position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute marketing plans that use a range of traditional and digital communications and marketing tactics, including social media, advertising, print and other types of communications and marketing mechanisms, to deliver an effective and steady stream of messages to a wide variety of audiences.

  • Serve as main point of contact and project manager with internal clients for their editorial, creative services and general marketing needs, especially around recruitment efforts.

  • Oversee media buying efforts for recruitment marketing tied to clients’ specific goals, including the quantitative tracking of effectiveness.

  • Understand and contribute to managing the three Schools’ brands, through tactical mechanisms, working as both support and lead for various centers, units, faculty, and special initiatives to ensure coherence and mutual support in brand-building.

  • Oversee identity management for the College and three Schools.

  • Manage the department’s digital asset management and project management systems.

  • Work with all internal clients and appropriate external groups to provide high-quality editorial content for Baruch College.

  • Produce, manage and oversee project-specific budgets, ensuring adherence to cost parameters, ongoing tracking of budgetary progress and compliance with policies and procedures.

  • Lead RFP processes with clients and Procurement department. to secure external service providers as needed.

  • Interact with rating/ranking entities such as the AACSB, the Princeton Review, and US News and World Report to properly position the College.

  • Manage and oversee workload of several team members, including, but not limited to communications director, multimedia designers, marketing managers and part-time assistants. Will have direct oversight of the in-house multimedia design studio, including management of current and future IT needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

  • Master's degree preferred

  • Creative and analytical thinking to implement the best practices in communications and marketing required

  • Must have experience managing an in-house agency-type structure for marketing efforts

  • Strong customer-service philosophy and experience managing internal clients required

  • Experience hiring and managing external vendors and service providers, including contract negotiation, quality control and budget development

  • Must have media buying experience across traditional and digital advertising and promotions landscapes, including the ability to quantify the results

  • Ability to oversee and produce high-quality editorial content in traditional and digital environments

  • Experience directing and managing creative service providers, including in-house designers and external vendors
