CUNY IT Academic Technology Coordinator in New York, New York


As a member of the Instructional Technology team in the Baruch Computing and Technology Center (BCTC), this position provides support for the College’s open education initiatives. These include the redesign of courses through the replacement of proprietary textbooks with open educational resources (OER), creation of OER textbooks, and multimedia OER course projects, as well as the incorporation of OER in the College’s learning management systems. This position works in close collaboration with the College’s Center for Teaching and Learning and the Library, working on initiatives to increase the usage of OER across all disciplines taught at Baruch. This position reports to the Instructional Designer.

Duties include:

  • Implement and curate an online resource to introduce OERs and related content to faculty and staff.

  • Inventory and document the use of OER at the College.

  • Participate in developing programming to encourage the use of OERs by helping faculty navigate the process of adopting OER and open educational practices.

  • Research technologies and archives that can be used to develop and support open education and OER.

  • Keep current on OER options and developments in open education, ranging from OER platform alternatives to “homegrown” OERs developed by faculty and other possibilities for reducing costs in higher education and promoting open education practices.

  • Provide outreach and promotion of open education initiatives to internal and external audiences through attendance and presentations at meetings and conferences.

  • Assist with the creation and delivery of faculty development workshops.

  • Assist with writing open education and OER-related grant proposals.

  • Perform administrative aspects of implementing and supporting programming such as creating schedules and maintaining budget records.

  • Contribute to data collection to support programming, assessment, and external reporting.

  • Explore best practices for open education and the creation of and pedagogical models for using OER.

  • Contribute to the strategic direction of OER and open education initiatives at Baruch.

  • Recruit faculty and staff to participate in OER and open education programs. Work with marketing and communications staff to inform the Baruch community of programs and achievements. Assist with the development and implementation of a cohesive marketing and promotions strategy.


  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • Working knowledge of current Open Education Resources and tools

  • Strong WordPress skills and familiarity with the Blackboard environment

  • Fluent in copyright issues and creative commons licensing practices

  • Track record of working with faculty to design curriculum and assessment tools in multiple disciplines

  • Understanding of CUNY library and technology resources

  • Background in the creation and support of peer-reviewed OER(s)

  • Experience with pedagogical design that incorporates instructional and education technology


Provides support to students and faculty in the use of instructional systems, software, and programs.

  • Researches and prepares program materials, FAQs, and user guides

  • Provides telephone and/or email support for faculty and student users of instructional systems, software, and programs

  • Develops training materials and delivers orientation/training sessions

  • Maintains on-line information on web sites

  • Acts as liaison to related areas such as CUNY's Computer and Information Services area, to evaluate and escalate reported problems, and disseminate information notices

  • Assists faculty with use of instructional technology to support educational goals

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
