GENERAL DUTIES

I.T. Associates perform moderately complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Associates work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include resolving complex technology problems and serving as a technical resource. They have considerable latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may have supervisory responsibilities.

I.T. Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Hunter College’s IT Associate, Level 1 will report to the Instructional Computing and Information Technology (ICIT), IT Technical Director, to support the Division of Student Affairs with various data-related and reporting needs. He/she will lead the design, engineering, and assist in implementation of dashboards and visualizations of datasets from various student information systems. The IT Associate will be responsible for actively working with multiple student support offices to plan, develop, and deliver comprehensive student data for the purpose of internal and external reporting focused on outcomes, retention, and assessment. In addition, he/she will work closely with Student Affairs leadership to develop an understanding of systems in-use, and make best practice recommendations to enhance data integrity and data literacy amongst the Division.

Responsibilities Include: Work with IT teams, functional user and management to determine organizational goals Mine data from primary and secondary sources Clean and prune data to discard irrelevant information Design, create and maintain relational databases and data systems Analyze and interpret results using standard statistical tools and techniques Pinpoint trends, correlations and patterns in complicated data sets Provide concise data reports and clear data visualizations for management Triage code problems and data-related issues

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

  2. An equivalent of seven years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: seven years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus five years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus three years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position

  3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency

  4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

This job has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with data visualization and mapping of multiple related data sets in a meaningful way Experience in data mining and predictive analytics using large data sets Ability to work with incomplete and messy data to extract usable information Strong analytical and critical thinking skills Experience with pattern recognition, natural language processing, and mining of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to ask tough and insightful questions, provide constructive coaching and advice to projects, and drive projects through to completion Familiarity with data structures in Ellucian Degree Works and PeopleSoft Campus Solutions preferred Experience with Tableau or other business intelligence tools used to present dashboard-type data to functional users

COMPENSATION

$60,417
