GENERAL DUTIES

I.T. Support Assistants support routine operations and problem resolution of computing and/or communications functions at a College or Unit. They work in technical support, applications development, operations, help desk, and similar environments, as well as in the field where equipment may be located.

Work tasks include as:

  • Operating, transporting, adjusting, and installing/configuring computing and related equipment

  • Communicating with technology users and staff to understand, identify, document and resolve problems

  • Performing simple repairs to computing and related equipment.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Guttman Community College is seeking an IT Support Assistant in the Office of Information Services. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the IT Support Assistant is responsible for providing technical support to all Guttman users for software, hardware, and network problems.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Identify and diagnose IT problems related to personal computer hardware and software. Resolve basic issues or inform appropriate parties of complex problems to ensure timely resolution.

  • Deliver, setup, and configure end-user desktop and laptop computer hardware, software, mobile devices and peripherals.

  • Assist in maintaining an inventory of IT hardware and software assets.

  • Coordinate timely repair of IT equipment covered by third-party vendor maintenance agreements.

  • Coordinate and deliver laptop carts to classrooms as per the needs of each professor.

  • Record all requests in supported ticketing system.

  • Respond to assigned IT helpdesk tickets in a timely manner.

  • Use remote access software to troubleshoot technical problems.

  • Use ticketing software to manage assigned workload and update problem tickets with detailed resolution.

  • Set up and troubleshoot projectors and video conferencing equipment.

  • Maintain toner and paper levels on copy machines and printers throughout the campus.

  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

  2. Eighteen months of related full-time work experience or equivalent, such as completion of eighteen college credits in Information Technology

  3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency

  4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

COMPENSATION

New Hire: $32,571* Incumbent: $36,804 *This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only. (Current contract rates - new rates to be implemented)
