CUNY Lecturer - Communication Studies (Director of the Basic Course) in New York, New York
FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Communications studies at Baruch College invites applications for a communication generalist who will serve as Director of the Basic Course and teach foundational courses in managerial communication, interpersonal communication, group communication, and communication studies. We are looking for an innovative teacher who will bring a focus on diversity and inclusion to our curriculum. This position is offered at the Lecturer level with the probability of receiving Certificate of Continuous Employment after successful reviews. The basic public speaking course is a graduation requirement for almost all students at Baruch. Specific responsibilities of the Director of this course include: administering over 100 individual sections of the course (each with an enrollment of 24 students) spread across the fall and spring semesters, as well as January intersession and two summer sessions; closely supervising over 50 adjuncts who teach the basic course; developing, refining, and implementing assessment methods for the course on a continual basis; and engaging with various institutes, centers, and personnel at Baruch that assist in advancing the College's ongoing mission to improve the oral communication skills of its students.
Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully. Master's Degree in Communication Studies highly preferred.
