CUNY Research Associate - Institute for Ultrafast Spectroscopy and Laser in New York, New York
Conducts academic research in connection with CUNY programs; may assist faculty, staff, and students in conducting research and lead research efforts involving others.
Develops research plans and proposals and participates in acquiring funding
Collects, analyzes, and assures validity of data
Writes progress reports; writes and publishes findings
Collaborates with internal and external colleagues

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Institute for Ultrafast Spectroscopy and Lasers has a distinguished record of innovation and is performing spectroscopy research in the areas of physics, engineering, material and biological sciences. A post-doctoral Research Associate is being sought to carry out independent lab research in the areas of ultrafast optical pump-probe investigation, Kerr effect, Raman and Fluorescence spectroscopy, streak cameras and ultrafast laser systems. The Research Associate will report to the Director of the Institute. The Research Associate also will collaborate with other researchers studying beams with orbital angular momentum. The Research Associate will study devices used to generate orbital angular momentum for applications in spectroscopy, telecommunications and other areas of fundamental and applied physics. The researcher may also study other areas of spectroscopy on solid state and biological materials.
The Research Associate will be responsible for operation of multiple IUSL laser systems and will supervise the operation of Raman spectroscopy lab. This position will also supervise undergraduate and graduate students performing research on various projects, and will be involved in organizing and supervising annual summer hands-on research program for high school students.
Doctoral Degree in a related field and demonstrated research ability.
Ph.D. and/or other graduate education in Applied Physics, Engineering, Physics or related field. Experience performing experiments in biomedical optics, optical laser spectroscopy, cancer research, complex light and studies of an optical device to generate orbital angular momentum. The successful candidate will have outstanding research, publication, presentation and academic accomplishments. The successful candidate must have hands-on experience in performing experiments and should also have experience in preparing and submitting successful grant proposals.
The preferred candidate should:
Have excellent computer skills, including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, database applications, and internet research
Have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Have excellent oral and written communication skills
Be able to work independently and under the general direction of the IUSL Director
Have experience in developing computer programs for research
Be detail-oriented with a positive attitude towards learning new procedures and new theories and methods
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
