CUNY Administrative Coordinator - Political Science in Queens, New York

The Political Science department seeks to employ a full time Administrative Coordinator who will report to the department Chair. In addition to the CUNY Title overview, tasks include but are limited to:

  • Assist department in the preparation of support paperwork for faculty tenure and promotion.

  • Provide assistance to students with questions regarding departmental academic procedures and related matters.

  • Arrange meetings, appointments and assist with preparation of departmental special events.

  • Maintain and update spreadsheets and records related to departmental budget.

  • Coordinate honors and awards ceremonies for student recipients who achieved academic excellence (GPA of 3.5 and greater).

  • File and maintain registration documents and course schedules.

  • Provide administrative support for Faculty

  • Liaise with other departments of the college, advisory groups and student organizations.

  • Maintain calendar of report deadlines, events and important dates related to the Political Science department.

  • Assist Pre-Law Advisor with the administrative tasks of the program which include but are not limited to: publicizing events, maintaining records, sending correspondence to potential students etc.


Bachelor's Degree required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience working in higher education, including extensive contact with faculty, staff and students

  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft systems

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills


Supports projects, initiatives, and activities that impact an academic or administrative department.

  • Manages basic office functions such as communications, meeting schedules, work plans, staff assignments, and distributing information.

  • Collects data for, prepares, and distributes reports and presentations using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

  • Updates office databases, lists, and files to ensure completeness and accuracy; maintains current information on department web site(s); maintains department archives and collections.

  • Conducts internet and/or database research and performs basic systems queries to locate information related to department activities.

  • Maintains department fiscal plans and budgets; assists in budget administration and invoice processing.

  • Provides basic information, instructions, and materials as requested by students, faculty, and others who contact the department.

  • May supervise office staff and student workers.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
