POSITION DETAILS

York College, a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and located in Queens--the most ethnically diverse borough of NYC--invites applications for the position of Associate Provost for Academic Affairs.

The Associate Provost works in close partnership with academic and student development units and other University officers to promote and support the mission, development and implementation of College-wide student academic success and engagement initiatives.

The Associate Provost will be responsible for closely collaborating with faculty and student advisors, overseeing joint academic affairs and student development programs, supporting committees and offices related to student success and engagement, and representing the College to University-wide initiatives and programs.

Working with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, the Associate Provost will be responsible for developing datasets and programs to assess student engagement and success efforts. Other responsibilities include the management and supervision of programs that engage students and provide support for their classroom work and beyond. He/She will be responsible for developing collaborative projects for units that support study abroad, scholarship, and related committees that broaden student perspectives in both local and global communities. This position facilitates communication and coordination among the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Educational Technologies’ programs to foster excellence in teaching practices, and in assessment of learning outcomes, including overseeing the publication of the academic affairs newsletter.

Reporting to the Provost/Senior Vice President, the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs will have the following specific duties and responsibilities:

a) Coordinated Undergraduate Education Program Oversee and direct the Coordinated Undergraduate Education Program (CUE), manage its activities on campus, generate internal and external reports and represent the College to related meetings

b) College Academic Integrity Officer Maintain college academic integrity records, serve as the liaison to the academic integrity committee, administer and manage the committee’s meetings and calendar with students as needed, and following up with the Faculty-Student Disciplinary Committee and/or consultation with the Legal Affairs Office as needed.

c) Graduation and Retention Action Plan Committee (Co-chair) Oversee and facilitate the implementation of activities coming out of the First-Year Initiative. In collaboration with the Division of Student Development, will develop a strategic plan for improved retention and graduation rates addressing issues from first-year to graduation.

d) Conflicts of Interest Officer Oversee, maintain records and manage training related to Conflict of Interest for sponsored research, participate in training, and represent the College as needed

e) Academic Program Reviews Initiate and monitor the academic program review process including the development of schedule (in consultation with Provost, Deans, and Office of Institutional Effectiveness); and generation of internal and external reports as needed

f) Academic Affairs Update Oversee and support the monthly production and publication of the Division’s newsletter (Academic Affairs Update) in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Advancement, including content acquisition, layout, review, and production.

g) Liaise with the Center for Teaching Learning, and Educational Technologies to support faculty and student online engagement and training.

h) Oversee the Scholarship Office and related programs and activities.

i) Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

The Associate Provost for Academic Affairs at York College will require an earned doctoral degree and four years' relevant academic experience.

Additionally, the successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Experience with academic departments, student advisement, and knowledge of student development programs and practices.

  • Excellent written communication and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated track record of project management, data analysis and research in graduate and undergraduate education.
