CUNY Director of Admissions - York College/CUNY in Queens, New York


York College is located in Southeast Queens, one of the five boroughs of New York City. The Director of Admissions is an integral part of the College's enrollment management team.

In addition to the Overview duties, the successful candidate can expect to:

  • Report to the Executive Director of Enrollment Management.

  • Lead recruitment and enrollment activities that align with the College’s mission.

  • Design and implement comprehensive enrollment plans by contributing information, analysis, strategic thinking and direction to reach the College’s Undergraduate and Graduate enrollment objectives.

  • Develop and manage recruitment events/activities with internal and external constituents.

  • Work closely with the College’s marketing team to develop and execute communication plans in both print and electronic media.

  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, and evaluate Admissions personnel.

  • Supervise the Admissions Office staff, with special focus on Admissions counselors, to assist them in achieving undergraduate/graduate enrollment goals.

  • Serve as the campus representative to the CUNY Admissions Council.

  • Serve as a member of the campus Enrollment Committee.

  • Serve as a member of the scholarship selection committee which identifies scholarship recipients within the college.

  • Represent the Executive Director of Enrollment Management as needed.

Additionally, periods of travel in the New York City metro area will be required, including weekends and evenings.


Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required; Master’s degree preferred.

In addition, the following qualifications are highly preferred:

  • Experience with production of a variety of media, in particular, print publications

  • Previous recruiting experience in metropolitan area a plus

  • Experience with Hobsons Connect or other computer-based CRM systems

  • Experience with PeopleSoft

  • Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills

  • A proven track record of success in recruitment and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in the administration of an admissions office

  • Expertise in facilitating organizational development and change

  • Competency for analyzing recruitment-related data and assessing programming activities as part of a strategic enrollment planning initiative

  • An understanding of innovative uses of technology in the recruitment process

  • Experience working with diverse populations


Develops, implements, and manages one or more major admissions and recruiting functions.

  • Manages overall recruitment and admissions processes

  • Develops recruiting strategies for the College and/or specific programs or groups and works closely with academic departments, programs, and administrators to coordinate marketing and recruiting

  • Manages the development and distribution of recruiting materials and communications of all kinds

  • Manages admissions operations and staff, including coordination with outside organizations and University administration

  • Oversees department budget including developing detailed proposals to support recruitment and admissions

  • Evaluates and reports outcomes; uses information in statistical, fiscal, and other reports to make improvements to the recruiting process

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
