POSITION DETAILS

The Queens Educational Opportunity Center was established to serve New York State residents who are academically unprepared for college level study and vocationally unprepared for employment, lack competitive skills, and are from low to moderate income households.

The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) Advanced Technology Training And Information Networking (ATTAIN) labs are a statewide initiative funded by New York State to provide urban and rural communities access to state of the art technology. Using innovative technologies, ATTAIN labs provide underserved and underprepared community residents with the opportunity to access academic, vocational, life skills and workplace readiness training.

Under supervision of the Executive Director or designee at SUNY Queens Educational Opportunity Center, and in coordination with the Statewide Coordinator, the ATTAIN Lab Coordinator will provide onsite facilitation of learning to Queens EOC students and community residents.

The Coordinator will collaborate with colleagues and leadership of the EOC to support students seeking academic and workforce development training.

Additionally, he/she will schedule students for ISI courseware and Microsoft training modules and help to develop training pathways for students based on available lab resources.

Participation in Center outreach efforts to encourage TANF, TANF 200% and community residents to apply and complete programs in the ATTAIN Lab is an integral part of the position.

Lastly, the Coordinator will communicate and document technical issues that may arise with Supervisor to ensure the lab is fully functional and available to students and community residents.

Other duties expected of the successful candidate include:

  • Monitor student progress through the resource lab management system
  • Provide student support at the learning stations as needed.
  • Provide an orientation to the resources and rules of the lab to users.
  • Proctor exams as scheduled.
  • Perform additional/related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors' degree required. In addition, the following qualifications are highly preferred:

* Two years experience working with adult learners (training, advising and/or mentoring) Strong communication, written, organizational and presentation skills Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications or Microsoft certifications * Ability to promote professional and ethical behavior

Provides operational and analytical support for a learning resource center in an Educational Opportunity Center (EOC).

  • Assists in providing academic resources such as tutoring, remedial and/or other targeted student support services

  • Maintains center records including student files; prepares reports and surveys; collects and maintains statistical data on center activities; updates Center web pages

  • Assists with the planning, scheduling and execution of training programs, lectures, workshops, meetings and special events

  • Serves as resource for students and faculty on center policies and procedures; conducts basic research as assigned

  • May schedule individual and group sessions for students

  • May supervise part-time and/or clerical staff; may monitor department budget

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
