GENERAL DUTIES

I.T. Associates perform moderately complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Associates work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include resolving complex technology problems and serving as a technical resource. They have considerable latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may have supervisory responsibilities.

I.T. Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Queens College Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking an IT Associate to fill the role of Project Specialist for Instructional Technology, who will review the proposals and lead the implementations of funded academic technology projects with the goal of meeting clients’ timelines, budget and scope. The Project Specialist’s work may have a strong concentration on specific technical areas, but full understanding of related technical areas is required in order to understand the implications of their actions and decisions. The majority of projects such as Technology Enhanced Classrooms and Flexible Learning spaces will include existing system utilization analysis and future capacity planning. Integration of diverse technologies such as network, A/V desktop computers, printers and software as well as general systems and deployment planning will also be responsibilities of this position. This position reports to the Director of the OIT Project Management Office (PMO). The Mission of Queens College’s OIT PMO is to use consistent project management practices which will allow OIT to effectively initiate, select, prioritize, manage, track, and monitor projects and resources that will enable Queens College to fulfill its mission and strategic goals. The Project Specialist for Instructional Technology will plan, schedule, monitor, evaluate and direct projects to ensure customer satisfaction for every implementation. The Project Specialist will:

  • Manage OIT and other College resources and third party contractors as needed; ensuring projects meet established time, cost and technical objectives

  • Effectively use a combination of QC’s information systems (online project management, e-mail, electronic document management and workflow routing, etc.) to document the project management life cycle and track task completion for OIT departments, manage the change control and risk analysis process, culminating in client acceptance of project deliverables.

  • Conduct project progress reviews with client and project team personnel, and provide contingency and problem resolution plans as required

  • Coordinate and lead project planning team meetings with sponsors, proposal requesters, OIT technical staff, Buildings & Grounds staff and Campus Facilities and other key stakeholders in I.T. deployments, including but not limited to network infrastructure, the digital displays and audio/video technologies throughout the campus, and desktop/mobile computing hardware and software systems.

  • Develop and manage project plans in a Project Management Information System to monitor and track progress, and manage changes to scopes, project schedules, and project costs, produce project status reports using the colleges’ Project Management Information System, report and escalate to management as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

  2. An equivalent of seven years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: seven years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus five years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus three years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position

  3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency

  4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

This job has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven project management delivery portfolio and at least 3 years’ project coordinator/manager experience leading I.T. projects developing functional requirements, including general systems planning, capacity planning, and systems utilization analysis reporting

  • Excellent client- service skills, writing, presentation and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with MS Project, MS Visio, MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) , and online document management

  • Experience with planning and managing projects involving I.T. and networking infrastructure

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification or CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) a huge plus

COMPENSATION

New Hire: $58,997* Incumbent: $66,665 *This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only.
