The College of Staten Island (CSI) is a City University of New York (CUNY) senior College organized around two academic divisions and three schools, with over 14,000 students. The Department of Media Culture at the College of Staten Island (CSI) invites applications for a tenure track position in The Department of Media Culture at the rank of College Laboratory Technician beginning Fall 2017.

The Department of Media Culture offers Bachelor degrees in Cinema and Communications and a Masters in Media Studies. Located in the College’s Center for the Arts, the department has creative laboratory facilities in Film and Video Production, Television Studio Production, Audio and Radio Production, Graphic Design, and Web Design. Standard software used across the range of courses within the majors include the Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro Studio, Pro Tools, and other course specific applications.

Reporting to the Media Culture’s Senior CLT, and in addition to the General Duties, the College Laboratory Technician will perform the following duties:

  • Provides technical support for teachers and students in computer classrooms and student computer labs, to support coursework.

  • Identifies problems regarding student laboratory and classroom computers and peripherals.

  • Provides instructional support for the integration of educational technology by faculty in their classrooms.

  • Maintains Apple Mac hardware and software (including sound reproduction) and support the general administration of the Media Culture’s student computer labs.

  • Assists with student and faculty video and audio troubleshooting as needed to support classroom instruction.

  • Assists with student and faculty with desktop printing as needed for digital design applications to support classroom instruction.

  • Provides audio visual setup and support for various classroom and departmental events.

  • Assists the Senior CLT in the preparation of purchase requisitions, assistance with budget management and purchasing of equipment.

  • Maintains lab/classroom equipment, software, licensing and supply inventories.

  • Generates and maintains equipment certification reports and distributes student progress to instructors

  • Assists students in the planning of student film festival by providing technical and facilities support

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following preferred qualifications:

  • Strong technical knowledge of video cameras, lighting and sound reproduction equipment, including audio and video conversion equipment.

  • Demonstrates workmanship in preparation for printing / scanning hardware and software – Xerox and Epson systems.

  • Proficient or Familiarity in using software such as: Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat DC, Audacity, HandBrake, Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Final Cut Pro X, Filemaker Pro, Dropbox, Google Drive, MPEG Stream Clip, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Audition, Adobe Creative Cloud 2014 or higher.

  • Proficient in Mac OS environment, ability to clone hard drives, work at the Mac OS Finder level, install and remove programs, installation and removal of peripherals on Mac Pro workstations and iMac desktops in the lab environments.

  • Daily reporting of notes to the Senior CLT of laboratory functionality, record keeping and database management.

  • Working knowledge of television studio functionality

  • Significant experience in the film/video/television industry

  • 16mm film experience (production and post-production)
