CUNY Acad Program Mgr in Bronx, New York
The Early College Liaison manages a comprehensive support program to promote learning and academic success for students enrolled in Inwood Early College for Health and Information Technologies, a six-year program leading to a high school diploma and an associate degree. The Liaison functions as a key staff member of both Bronx Community College and Inwood, fostering a sense of collaboration and community among the faculty and providing students with an educational experience that will lead to success in college. The Inwood Early College model is supported by a partnership among the New York City Department of Education, the City University of New York Early College Initiative, Bronx Community College, and industry partners (New York Presbyterian Hospital and Microsoft). While the College Liaison reports to the Associate Dean for Success Programs at Bronx Community College, s/he must be equally comfortable working very closely with Inwood staff.
Specific duties include:
Convene and facilitate regular school planning meetings with college and school staff to further develop the scope and sequence of the program, the development of early college partnership activities, and curriculum development.
Develop and implement programs in coordination with college faculty and staff to support early college goals (e.g. college immersion experiences, speakers, trips to colleges, non-academic events connected to the college).
Increase awareness of the early college partnership at the college in order to garner support and recruit faculty members to participate in activities such as the school planning committee, professional development, and collaborative curriculum development with school staff.
Develop (in collaboration with the school principal), administer, and monitor tax-levy and grant budgets for the school, including the mid-year report.
Establish systems for the logistical aspects of the school-college partnership.
Manage all activities related to college course-taking by high school students including setting guidelines and performance standards.
Monitor and evaluate program data as well as data from the city and state examinations to assess student progress in collaboration with the school. Make recommendations to improve student achievement in order to fulfill the early college mission.
Attend monthly liaison meetings with other liaisons at CUNY Central as well as participate in CUNY-organized inter-visitations to learn about early college "best practices."
Participate in School Leadership Team meetings to help shape school policies and decisions.
Bachelor’s degree and six years’ related experience required.
Additional desired qualifications:
Master's or advanced degree in education or relevant field highly desirable
Teaching and/or administrative experience in the New York City Department of Education and/or secondary school(s)
Teaching and/or administrative experience in a higher education setting
Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis
Evidence of excellent reading/writing/thinking skills and ability to communicate
Excellent computer skills
Demonstrated commitment to promoting college access for all high school students Experience in program development, coordination, and management of budgets, data, and research
Experience in working closely with parents and members of the community
