CUNY Academic Program Specialist - Urban Male Leadership Program in Bronx, New York
Lehman College is the only senior college of The City University of New York (CUNY) located in the Bronx. A federally-designated Hispanic Serving Institution, Lehman serves a diverse population of more than 14,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The college serves mainly undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study.
The Urban Male Leadership Program (UMLP) under the Division of Student Affairs and the CUNY Black Male Initiative (BMI) is seeking an Academic Program Specialist. The Academic Program Specialist will report directly to the Program Director. The Academic Program Specialist will be responsible for the daily operations and administrative functions of the Urban Male Leadership Program. The selected candidate will implement and assess program activities, which include student recruitment, academic programming, leadership programming, and structured mentoring programs. The Academic Program Specialist will also work closely with faculty, staff, students, administrators, and alumni to build partnerships across the campus to create an academic and community support for both entering and continuing students.
The Academic Program Specialist will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:
Assist the Program Director in the daily operation of the UMLP Office.
Recruit students to the UMLP to increase enrollment and retention as well as improve grade point average.
Develop and monitor mentorship workshops for students within the program.
Develop and monitor the academic intervention and success workshops within the program.
Create assessments in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Research, Planning and Assessment to evaluate program achievement.
Assist the Director with the planning of the annual UMLP fundraiser and attend local community board and monthly advisory board meetings.
Monitor and submit program budget expense reports to the Budget Office.
Submit the CUNY BMI funding application to receive funding from the New York City Council.
Prepare and submit annual and program reports as needed to the Director.
Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required; Master’s Degree preferred.
Experience in higher education consisting of direct, ongoing interaction with student population.
Experience in collaborating with several departments and administrators of all levels.
High proficiency level in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint).
The ability to communicate in writing is an important job-related competency. All candidates will draft a writing sample as part of the interview process to demonstrate their ability to write memos and letters that are grammatically correct and express information clearly.

Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings

Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services
Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures
Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials
May supervise office operations and/or department budget
Performs related duties as assigned.
