POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Senior Director of Academic Program, the SEEK Director is responsible for the overall administration of the Percy Ellis Sutton SEEK Program, whose mission is to provide comprehensive academic support to assist capable students who otherwise might not be able to attend college due to their educational and financial circumstances. In addition to the responsibility for administering the functions and services vested in the SEEK Program, the Director shall also be responsible for monitoring all SEEK funding, facilitating support programs and services provided by various College departments to SEEK students, and for the advocacy and representation of SEEK Students from admission to graduation.

  • Provide leadership and direction to support students in making informed decisions regarding undergraduate and post graduate plans through career exploration

  • Develop annual goals, which are aligned with the College, Office of Special Programs, and the University’s strategic plans, prepare, and write reports for the college and university.

  • Prepares annual program and budget reports to the University Office of Special Programs.

  • Manage, supervise and directs the day-to-day activities of the program including hiring, supervising, developing, and evaluating professional and support staff.

  • Working with the Financial Aid, Bursar, Admissions, and Registrar Offices on a regular basis to ensure that proper records are maintained and appropriate services provided to SEEK students;.

  • Represent SEEK Program at the CUNY, State and Federal levels.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a master's degree and eight (8) years of related experience, at least five (5) of which shall be in administering programs for educationally and economically disadvantaged college students.

  • General knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods.

  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations, guidelines, and procedures for awarding of financial aid.

  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft.

  • Experience with state and federally funded programs such a TRIO.

  • Expertise in student development.

  • A record of excellence in implementing research best practices in personal counseling, tutoring, and academic advising.

  • Demonstrated record of collecting and using data to assess the effectiveness of initiatives towards student progress and the design of interventions to further student degree completion.

  • Proven experience and success in managing a complex unit, including grant management and experience in leveraging available technologies to advance program activities and processes.

The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of opportunity programs and be committed to the success of students eligible for special program support; grant writing experience; data analytic skills; the ability to judge trends and appreciate the implications of data; and demonstrated ability to collaborate with staff at every level.

The successful candidate will have excellent communications skills and be able to relate well with faculty, staff, and students in a culturally diverse environment.

Directs campus SEEK program operations. SEEK (Search for Education, Elevation, and Knowledge) is a higher education opportunity program established at the senior CUNY colleges to provide comprehensive academic support to assist capable students who otherwise might not be able to attend college.

  • Conducts ongoing assessment of SEEK support functions to improve upon service delivery
