Bronx Community College is seeking qualified applicants for part-time teaching assignments. The teaching needs in the Modern Language Department include courses in the following languages: Arabic, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish and French. These positions are filled on an as need basis and are on-going recruitments. Assignments may include day, evening, and weekend courses and may be in-person, online or blended courses.

The Modern Language Department seeks excellent instructors who are student-oriented in their approach and dedicated to student success in the target language. An ideal candidate will be skilled in generating student engagement in learning. Innovative teaching strategies are encouraged, including the active use of technology. The Modern Language Department currently offers a Liberal Arts Degree with a Spanish concentration. The program offers language courses from the introductory to the advanced levels as well as thematic advanced courses in Caribbean, French, Iberian, Italian, and Latin American literature and culture. The Department offers courses in six languages: Arabic, French, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese. Recent initiatives e-Portfolio integration, learning communities, hybrid courses, Open Educational Resources (OER), and the introduction of less commonly taught languages (LCTLs).


For Adjunct Assistant Professor: Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required is the ability to teach successfully.

For Adjunct Lecturer: Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully.

Commitment to teaching excellence required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One of the following awarded/conferred from an accredited institution: Master’s in the language being taught OR Bachelor’s in the language being taught AND Master’s in another language, linguistics, or related field

  • At least one year teaching experience in higher education

  • Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; and awareness and commitment to the needs of non-traditional students

  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English
