POSITION DETAILS

The Office of International Programs & Community Engagement (IPCE) fosters local and global engagement through curricular and co-curricular offerings, interaction with students and faculty from a broad range of cultures and languages, and opportunities to learn and conduct research at home and abroad. Reporting to the Associate Director of International Programs, the Coordinator for Global Engagement will perform duties and functions in the areas of local and global community engagement:

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the responsibilities of the position will include but not be limited to the following:

o Support global initiatives and programs, including intercultural programming, study abroad, alternative break programs (Ex. Lehman LIFE), international student programming and global partnerships.

o Design and manage community engagement service programs and initiatives, including: cultivating and managing a portfolio of community partners.

o Lead efforts to recruit, onboard, and train student volunteers, including: developing consistent practices and communications around volunteer leadership development.

o Coordinate promotion of study abroad opportunities, scholarships (i.e. Gilman, Freeman-Asia, CLS, Fulbright, etc.), and international education at off- and on-campus events.

o Coordinate pre/post study abroad planning, orientation, and debrief activities, including information sessions, pre-departure workshops on international travel guidelines and regulations (such as Title IX Training), and debriefing sessions upon return to campus.

o Develop materials, resources and programs that promote the development and practice of intercultural exchange and academic success in collaboration with campus partners.

o Maintain student and faculty records related to study abroad and international education, such as academic transcripts and credit exchanges, Terra Dotta for risk tracking, and CUNY-GO registration for independent graduate or undergraduate travel.

o Assist in coordination and participate in Lehman L.I.F.E. alternative break trips during spring, summer, and/or winter break periods including recruitment, selection, planning, fundraising, and other aspects related to Lehman L.I.F.E.

o Communicate with exchange partners regarding outgoing and incoming exchange student applications in collaboration with the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO).

o Update and maintain office website content and social media pages.

o Support the daily operations of IPCE.

o Support annual global citizenship gala, and other fundraising initiatives

Some Saturdays and evenings required. Up to 14 days of travel may also be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in study abroad coordination; knowledge of intercultural development; competence in a second language such as Spanish or French; and demonstrated experience in student services.

  • Manages basic office functions such as communications, meeting schedules, work plans, staff assignments, and distributing information.

  • Collects data for, prepares, and distributes reports and presentations using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

  • Updates office databases, lists, and files to ensure completeness and accuracy; maintains current information on department web site(s); maintains department archives and collections.

  • Conducts internet and/or database research and performs basic systems queries to locate information related to department activities.

  • Maintains department fiscal plans and budgets; assists in budget administration and invoice processing.

  • Provides basic information, instructions, and materials as requested by students, faculty, and others who contact the department.

  • May supervise office staff and student workers.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
