The Mathematics Department at Hostos Community College of The City University of New York invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor. The Mathematics Department specifically seeks applicants with an interest in teaching and research and the capacity to participate in student guidance and curriculum development as well as other tasks normally associated with a full-time teaching position.

Hostos Community College is located in the Bronx and the diverse faculty of the department works closely with students and each other in an open and collegial atmosphere. Hostos has both a teaching and a research mission and the candidate will be expected to teach core undergraduate and developmental mathematics courses as well as electives within their area of research and share responsibility for committee and other departmental assignments.


Ph.D in Mathematics. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Candidates should have a record of scholarly publications commensurate with the rank of Assistant Professor.

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience and interest in teaching mathematics to undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds in an urban setting

  • Experience developing, coordinating, and teaching developmental and introductory undergraduate mathematics courses

  • Availability to work evening and weekend hours

  • Bilingual skills


Salary commensurate with education and experience.
