POSITION DETAILS

Bronx Community College (BCC) of The City University of New York offers more than 30 academic programs that prepare students for careers and to continue their education at four-year colleges. BCC serves students of diverse backgrounds, preparations, and aspirations by providing them with an education that is both broad in scope and rigorous in standards. Our mission is to give our students the foundation and tools for success, whether they choose to continue their education and/or enter a profession immediately upon graduation and to instill in them the value of informed and engaged citizenship and service to their communities. BCC provides opportunities for success through 33 academic programs and 7 certificate programs with a full-time faculty of approximately 300. The College’s student profile is 58% female and showcases a diverse urban population that is 61% Latino/Hispanic and 33% Black. More than half (57%) of BCC students attend full-time and 70% are between the ages of 19 and 30.

Reporting to the Vice President of the Division for Advancement, Communications & External Relations, the Assistant Vice President for Development and Alumni serves as a key member of the management team who is responsible for leading and organizing the development program that provides strong support for Bronx Community College’s priorities. The Assistant Vice President will establish objectives and formulate strategies in the areas of fundraising, planned giving, foundation and corporate sponsorships and alumni relations.

The responsibilities of the Assistant Vice President include but are not limited to the following:

  • Leading all development activities for the college, including our largest fundraising events, the annual BCC Foundation Gala and charity run, Run the Bronx

  • Leading major individual prospecting, cultivation and fundraising

  • Developing and executing a robust alumni fundraising strategy

  • Leading and implementing all capital campaigns, with emphasis on the cultivation and solicitation of principal gifts

  • Collaborating effectively with other senior staff to position the institution for a stable financial future, with a focus on corporate and individual giving

  • Working closely with Vice Presidents, Deans, faculty, staff and alumni to develop compelling funding requests and secure financial support for the College's mission and strategic priorities

  • Developing and managing an aggressive calendar of outreach that effectively involves faculty, staff, alumni, board members and volunteers in the solicitation process

  • Working closely with the AVP of Communications and Marketing to develop marketing materials and messaging that support BCC’s fundraising efforts

  • Establishing and implementing strategic alliances and partnerships with business, corporate and social agencies that advance the College, with particular attention to economic development activities

  • Developing and overseeing the implementation of a strategic fundraising strategy

  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Advancement, Communications and External Relations

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of related experience in fundraising.

  • The successful candidate should have a strong track record in fundraising, be a person of the highest professional integrity and possess the following senior-level qualifications:

  • Leadership experience in managing institutional development, including major gift solicitation, planned giving, events planning, and targeted drives for corporate and foundation donations and sponsorships.

  • Acumen for building a strong and effective network of supporters among the College's external public, such as community opinion and business leaders, trendsetters in academia, as well as successful role models in the professional and cultural fields of endeavor.

  • Ability to communicate with and harness energies from a wide base and diverse groups of people, from board members, faculty, staff, community leaders, alumni, business executives to volunteers representing varied ethnic, cultural, social and economic backgrounds.

  • Possession of a professional portfolio that documents career successes in building and leading results-oriented operations and programs.

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and experience in grant writing, business plan development and budget management.

  • Familiarity with MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publishers, and Outlook), virtual platforms (Teams, Zoom, WebEx, Skype), social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) and G-Suite (Google Docs, Google Mail, Google Hangout, etc.) is a plus.

  • Familiarity with philanthropic and fundraising systems such as Qgiv, Bloomerang, DonorPerfect, MatchMaker, NeonCRM, Kindful, or Double Donation is a plus.

  • Familiarity with student management and reporting systems such as Blackboard, Canvas, Schoology, Banner and Argos is also a plus.

This is an Executive Compensation Plan position. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
