POSITION DETAILS

The Associate Director for Financial Aid Compliance reports to the Director of Financial Aid and will work as part of a multi-functional team. The Associate Director will:

  • Support and monitor the compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations, other legal obligations, and institutional policies and procedures governing the administration of the financial aid programs at Lehman College. The Associate Director will assist Lehman Financial Aid personnel with the implementation of all federal and state regulatory and statutory requirements of the financial aid programs;

  • Monitor financial aid data to verify accuracy, and develop strategy to alleviate any problems by providing the information necessary for solutions;

  • Oversee the operations of the Federal Work Study program;

  • Perform the continual review of policies, services, and procedures aimed at delivering compliance oversight of the financial aid programs; Assist in the interpretation of federal and state regulations, institutional policies, guidelines and professional literature; Act as a resource for others when clarification is needed; Remain current and abreast of changes to pertinent legislation and regulations;

  • Conduct ongoing monitoring of critical regulatory requirements and certification, including for purposes of the Federal Student Aid Program Participation Agreement;

  • Identify any systems issues, research problems, and develop solutions to maintain compliance of the aid programs, in consultation with other Financial Aid managers, other Lehman offices and CUNY Central Office professionals; Ensure that proper security roles and system access for staff for both CUNYfirst and various federal and state systems;

  • Track and assist in the review of all communications to ensure compliance with the regulatory requirements, including but not limited to websites, publications, and student notifications;

  • Lead in the coordination with other offices to ensure corrective action is taken as needed in any actual or potential instances of non-compliance;

  • Train financial aid staff with both routine financial aid compliance and processing;

  • Responsible for assisting with the annual independent Title IV audit. Proactively troubleshoot and resolve all issues related to Title IV compliance activities;

  • Participate in day-to-day office operations, conduct special projects as assigned, and perform related duties which include staff supervision and representing the Director at meetings; review and process Professional Judgement Requests;

  • Participate in College Orientations and other campus meetings as required;

  • Some evening and weekend work may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

­A Bachelor’s Degree and six (6) years of related experience in financial aid administration are required.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Master’s Degree is preferred.

  • Knowledge and understanding of financial aid compliance, operations and best practices

  • Knowledge of the CUNYfirst system or equivalent student systems

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks to prioritize and to work independently

  • Superior communication skills, both written and oral to effectively communicate and train all employee levels within the University

  • Strong analytical, research, and technical skills to evaluate and use data in planning and decision making

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and a high level of commitment to student service

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and demonstrated ability to learn and apply other software, as needed

  • Ability to produce results as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Plans, develops and implements financial aid policies and processes in accordance with Federal, State and University standards.

  • Manages financial aid activities and represents the office at on-campus and off-campus meetings and forums

  • Manages day-to day administrative and systems operations for optimal efficiency and customer service; manages special processes such as Return of Title IV Aid

  • Provides comprehensive financial counseling to parents and students

  • Implements all necessary processes to support financial aid application, awarding and delivery cycles

  • Oversees the coordination of financial aid activities with those of other College and University offices

  • Implements and maintains web based services

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
