POSITION DETAILS

The EOC Academic Advisor will report to the Director of Student Affairs at Bronx Educational Opportunity Center. In collaboration with the College Connections Initiative Coordinator, the EOC Academic Advisor will assist in developing and administering a program to increase college awareness, retention and completion of students enrolled in programs at the Bronx Educational Opportunity Center (EOC). The EOC Academic Advisor will work with students, both individually and in groups. They will be responsible for maintaining the records for the students enrolled, providing relevant support at internal meetings, and external conferences, college tours, and presentations, as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bronx EOC is looking for applicants with experience in higher education working with student scholars. Knowledgeable in college admissions, computer technology, and higher education opportunities in the New York metropolitan area with specific experience with diverse urban populations. Prior experience (1-2 years) in working with adult learners.

Provides academic advisement and planning services to a diverse student population within an Educational Opportunity Center (EOC).

  • Assists students with clarifying values and goals, discussing educational options, requirements, policies and procedures; offers academic and personal support

  • Provides effective and timely referrals to other support services

  • Monitors and evaluates student progress

  • Establishes and maintains student files, databases and records; prepares activity reports and analyses

  • Coordinate and schedule advisor review of program requirements and application procedure with students and applicants in individual and group settings

  • Outreach to other centers and college offices as needed to support student success

  • May specialize in providing advice on specific programs or to specific student groups

  • May visit college campus with students

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Starting salary commensurate with education and experience: $62,689 - $65,946
