FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Lehman College seeks a faculty member who will teach cross-disciplinary courses across programs within the department and will serve in an administrative capacity in support of the department chair.

The Lehman College campus is located in Bronx, New York and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only four-year public college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution. The college serves mainly undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study. The teaching load is 18 hours per year and although the college is predominantly teaching-focused, faculty at Lehman are active in research, scholarship and creative works. Service to the college, university and community is part of the mission as is a clear commitment to engagement with students, including advisement. Teaching is reduced for junior faculty over the first five years for scholarly development and all faculty are actively encouraged to seek external funding. Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship support.

The Department of Health Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate/Full

professorship to begin in Fall, 2020. This position will include release hours for administrative responsibilities that support the work of the Chair in meeting departmental goals and objectives that reflect the mission and strategic vision of Lehman College including increasing student and faculty success and improving the health and well-being within the surrounding communities.

Candidates must have an active record of research and scholarship, and a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will be expected to teach cross disciplinary courses (such as Epidemiology, Bio statistics, U.S. Health Care Systems, Research Methods, and courses in Health Education & Promotion) at the undergraduate and graduate levels, engage in research/scholarship and professional organization, advise students, provide service to the department, college, university, and community; i.e. program coordination, committee, administrative, supervisory, and other assignments normally associated with a full-time tenure-track academic appointment. Evening and weekend teaching may be required.

The Department of Health Sciences is home to several programs including: Dietetics, Food and Nutrition; Exercise Science; Health Education and Promotion; Health Services Administration; Recreation Education; and Therapeutic Recreation. The faculty in all of the programs are both research active and committed teachers. With almost 2000 majors, it is the second largest department in the College.

The School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing houses four departments: Health Sciences; Social Work; Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, and Nursing. All departments offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees, including a Doctorate in Nursing Practice that is expected to admit its first cohort in 2020. The school is home to the CUNY Institute for Health Equity. Faculty in the School are active scholars and include principal investigators of numerous federal grants. Departments in the School actively engage with community and government partners to support evidence-based practices and health equity, with a special emphasis on urban populations.

The faculty are also research active and strongly committed to high- quality teaching and preparation of ethical and skilled health and human service professionals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. or other research doctorate – as well as professional experience – in a health sciences-related discipline or academic field is required on commencement of the appointment. Also required are the ability to teach successfully and demonstrated scholarship or achievement.

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional experience in cross-disciplinary teaching in the health sciences.

Experience in Higher Education program direction or department administration are strongly preferred as are active involvement in professional organizations, sincere commitment to students, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor:

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

For Instructor:

Master's degree in area(s) of expertise, and/or active progress toward a Doctorate, or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

COMPENSATION

Salaries are subject to the Professional Staff Congress-CUNY salary schedule (see link to salary schedule: https://www.psc-cuny.org/content/salary-schedules-full-time-faculty-and-research-series Salaries are commensurate with education and experience.
