The mission of the Natural Sciences Department is to provide high quality in educational programs in science and engineering as well as in support courses for the AAS, Allied Health and Liberal Arts programs. The Department assists students to: develop the skills required to analyze the mechanics of the natural and physical environment, learn to think critically, communicate effectively, cultivate an understanding of basic scientific and ethical values, and become responsible citizens of the world. The department also plays a major role in guiding our students of diverse, multicultural backgrounds to acquire advanced knowledge and research skills empowering them to pursue higher education degrees in science and engineering.

The Biology Unit of the Natural Sciences Department seeks applications for a Lecturer position to perform teaching and related faculty functions in area(s) of expertise. Additional duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Conducts Instruction in undergraduate biology courses.

  • Conducts course and curriculum development.

  • Performs scholarly activities leading to professional growth and excellence in teaching.

  • Provides student guidance.

  • Responsible for departmental and college assignments and other tasks normally associated with a full-time teaching position.

  • Essential duties require on-campus presence.

  • All CUNY employees must reside within a commutable distance to the tri-state area.


Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully.

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Master's degree or an equivalent degree from an accredited university in the disciplines of Chemistry and/or Biology.

  • The candidate must have demonstrated evidence of significant success as a teacher.

  • Posess a record of achievement in the field, continued growth and effectiveness in teaching.

  • Teaching experience in an urban multi-ethnic setting is desirable.

  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are desirable but not required.

  • Availability to work evening and weekend hours.


$72,280 - $81,466; Salary commensurate with education and experience.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Employees hired on or after October 1, 2022, and their eligible dependents will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, employees will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period. If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day. Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Enrollment.

An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request From and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
