The Department of Psychology invites applications for a psychologist to serve as full-time lecturer and major advisor with time split between these two activities. A successful candidate should be able to teach foundational psychology courses (such as, introduction to psychology, statistics and research methods), as well as courses in areas of interest and expertise. This faculty member will be responsible for overall coordination, communication, and problem solving in matters dealing with student advising. This is a new role in the department, one that we envision as filling a critical gap in our students’ success. Specific advising responsibilities may include: advising potential psychology majors on the curriculum; helping students plan their class schedules; evaluating transfer courses; working with students to identify and address obstacles to graduation; coordinating with instructors to identify students having difficulty in courses; and directing students to the appropriate campus resources.

The Lehman College campus is located in Bronx, New York and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only CUNY four-year college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution. The college serves mainly undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study. The teaching load is 24 hours per year but would be reduced by an amount commensurate with the additional advising responsibilities entailed in this position. For all faculty, service to the college, university and community is part of the mission as is a clear commitment to student engagement including advisement. Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship support.

The Department of Psychology has fifteen full-time faculty members, more than thirty part-time faculty, one full-time administrative assistant and more than 1,000 majors. It is located within the School of Natural and Social Sciences and is one of the largest departments at Lehman College. The department offers a broad psychology curriculum embedded in a liberal arts undergraduate program.


Area of expertise is open, but a PhD. in Psychology with documented experience of effective teaching, advising and mentoring at the undergraduate level is required. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
