CUNY Lecturer - Early Childhood and Childhood Education in Bronx, New York


The Department of Early Childhood and Childhood Education invites applications for a full-time lecturer position beginning Fall 2019.Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, they must be willing to work closely with local schools and communities to support the preparation of new teachers.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level methods courses in early childhood education;advise students; participate and collaborate in mentoring student teachers in the School of Education’s partner or Professional Development schools; provide service to the department, college, university, and community, (i.e., committee, administrative, supervisory, and other assignments normally associated with a full-time lecturer appointment); and teach evening classes.

The Lehman College campus is located in Bronx, New York and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only senior college of The City University of New York (CUNY) located in the Bronx. A federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution, Lehman serves a diverse population of more than 14,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The college serves mainly undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study. The teaching load is 25 hours (8 courses). Service to the college, university and community is part of the mission as is a clear commitment to student engagement including advisement. Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship and professional development support.

The Department of Early Childhood and Childhood Education has nationally recognized teacher certification programs that prepare teachers for Early Childhood (Birth to Grade 2) and Childhood (Grades 1-6) classrooms including those serving bilingual learners. Faculty in the Department are committed to the Lehman Urban Transformative Education framework adopted by Lehman’s School of Education. Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully.

Preferred qualifications: (1) master’s degree or higher in an education related field; (2) experience teaching young children; (3) experience working with educators and families in multicultural, multilingual communities; (4) experience in supervision and/or program coordination; (5) familiarity with edTPA; and/or (6) expertise in teaching science or math to young children.


Salaries are commensurate with education and experience and they are subject to the Professional Staff Congress-CUNY salary schedule:
