GENERAL DUTIES
Completes non-teaching projects or complex work in support of a Campus or University administrative or academic department. This work is generally of a temporary nature and requires specialized experience or expertise.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
Reporting to the Director of the Disability Services Office, the Disability Service Specialist is responsible for helping manage the Disability Service to provide reasonable accommodation’s within Bronx’s student-centered academic model. The Accessibility Specialist will work closely with the Disability Office and Faculty to ensure that online course content and will work closely with the Disability Office and Faculty to ensure that online course content and digital communications meet ADA guidelines. The candidate is also responsible for maintaining and creating digitally accessible content, testing and remediation, and verifying compliance with the web content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
Collaborate with Faculty and staff to implement accessibility course content solutions
Making sure that class material is compatible with screen readers, text browsers, and other assistive technologies used by students with disabilities
Conducting assessments on online course material to determine potential barriers to access by students registered with ARC
Recommending modifications to equipment, procedures, policies, or practices to ensure compliance with ADA standards
Developing and conducting training programs for faculty/staff on disability-related issues as well as on disability etiquette and sensitivity
Consulting with CTL about best practices for increasing accessibility in the classroom for students with disabilities
Creating an annual plan for compliance with ADA standards and maintaining records of actions taken to implement that plan
Perform accessibility audits and report on audit findings
Oversee production of alternate media (E-text, Kurzweil, large print, Dragon Naturally, speaking, zoom Text, audio files, Live Scribe pen, Glean, etc.) enabling students with visual disabilities access to instructional materials
Scan text material using special software and convert it into alternative forms of output
Provide alternate media orientation and training to students, learns develops, and implements new and emerging alternate media strategies, production techniques, and technologies
Perform other technical duties as needed and assigned by Director
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor degree from an accredited institution of higher education
Experience in a diverse higher education setting preferred with prior experience in coordinating and evaluating college-level programs
Knowledge of best practices in disabilities and autism spectrum conditions
Candidates must possess an understanding of the cultural, social, and educational needs of a multiethnic campus community
COMPENSATION
Non Teaching Adjunct $47.42-$59.00/HR
