Performs supervisory and/or complex technical functions in laboratories in support of coursework.

  • Manages College Laboratory Technicians, College Assistants, and other laboratory staff

Senior College Laboratory Technician

Reporting to the Director of the Media and Digital Film Production Program, the Senior College Laboratory Technician provides technical and instructional support for the television studio, edit lab, and classrooms.

Duties include:

  • Supervise lab/TV studio staff including college assistants, work study students, and others; assign tasks within the academic setting.

  • Maintain and update video editing workstations and Mac Lab for department.

  • Maintain equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and troubleshoot equipment problems.

  • Assist faculty and students on how to operate cameras, lighting console, intercom, teleprompter, video switcher, audio console, video playback and recorder systems.

  • Demonstrate single camera production, multi camera production, and video post-production software such as Avid Media Composer, ProTools, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere.

  • Maintain digital student ePortfolios and update archives of student projects.

  • Monitor and assist students using TV studio for ePortfolio assessments, field, audio and drone equipment.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues as needed.

  • Manage equipment sign out: cameras, lenses, tripods, media, LED and tungsten lighting kits, lighting mounts, audio recorders, and microphones.

  • Manage inventory; research emerging technology; obtain vendor quotes; and arrange for specialized maintenance and repairs if necessary.

  • Perform video edits for faculty and students as required.

  • Set up remote multi-camera productions for student instructional activities.

  • Schedule TV Studio and Edit Lab usage for tutoring, workshops, etc.

  • Operate 3DR Solo and DJI Mavic Pro; perform drone navigation repair.

Evening/Weekend hours may be required.


High School Diploma with a minimum of eight years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate's degree may be substituted for two years' experience and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years' experience. This position also requires the ability to direct, train, and supervise others.


Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to prioritize and work independently

  • Proficiency with pro applications such as AVID Media Composer, Pro Tools, Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Encore as well as Network Mac Computers in a LAN, WLAN

  • Proficiency with single camera, multi-camera TV production and live TV direction

  • Possess a strong foundation in analog audio, SDI video and wired intercom, Blackmagic Design ATEM 2 M/E Production Switcher, Allen audio console, AJA Control Room player Software, Blackmagic Hyperdeck Studio recorder, ETC lighting console, SONY PMW-EXR camera

  • Experience with a wide range of cameras: Sony HXR-NX5U, Panasonic GH4, Blackmagic Cinema and Blackmagic Ursa Mini

  • Expertise in using streaming video and web applications

  • Ability to operate a drone with relative proficiency; knowledge of the operation of Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) under hobby rules or Part 107 rules


$48,606 - $71,665; salary commensurate with education and experience.
