The Health and Human Services Department is located in the School of Professional Studies, a multi-disciplinary unit that also includes radiology technology, nursing, hospitality management, health care administration, dental hygiene, restorative dentistry, vision care technology, and other career-focused departments. The department is seeking to hire an Academic Program Coordinator.

Reporting to the Department Chair, the Academic Program Coordinator will with program development activities and provide services to our current students enrolled in the associate and bachelor’s degree programs.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Provide basic administrative support for academic human services degree program

  • Work with students to resolve academic issues

  • Conduct advisement, CUNYfirst and other needs for seamless course enrollment

  • Participate in department projects that support student advisement and career enhancement

  • Organize Internship orientations to prospective students each semester

  • Interface and network with community-based agencies and institutions that serve vulnerable populations as potential internship sites.

  • Collaborate with the college’s Professional Development Center to ensure alignment of resources and services.

  • Participate in faculty and curriculum meetings and compile internship status reports

  • Update internship and other advisement materials

  • Conduct surveys of student services, and compile data to prepare activity reports as assigned.

  • Monitor student progress towards degree; and, participate in end-of-semester academic review and perform needed follow-up.

  • Coordinate the Orientation process, and other programs, to support student learning.

  • Serve as Member of the HUS Self-Study Accreditation Department Team


Bachelor's Degree required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years' related experience in student advisement or support

  • Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills with students, staff and faculty.

  • Experience working with diverse populations.

  • Demonstrated skill with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Demonstrated skill with social media and online communication tools

  • Excellent time management skills.


Provides basic operational and analytical support related to a College's specialized academic program.

  • Supports the directors and managers with orientation preparation, student advisement regarding program requirements, and providing basic information about financial aid and registration

  • Manages office records including faculty files; prepares reports and surveys; collects and maintains statistical data on program activities

  • Serves as liaison to various College offices to provide service delivery and appropriate referrals to students

  • Collects and reviews syllabi to ensure compliance with standards

  • Serves as resource person for students and faculty regarding program policies and procedures

  • May supervise office operations and/or monitor department budget

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
