Brooklyn College invites applications for an Academic Program Coordinator in the Science Technology and Research (STAR) Program. STAR, located on the Erasmus Hall campus, is an early college school in partnership with Brooklyn College. Over 20 college classes are offered per semester as well as supplemental programs to support student learning throughout the year.

The Academic Program Coordinator provides support for major program activities that impacts approximately 200 high school students. Activities include serving as a resource to students for program related information and concerns and working closely with the program coordinators, faculty, staff, high school personnel, students and parents.

The Academic Program Coordinator will report to Academic Student Support Manager (STAR Coordinator). In addition to the duties within CUNY Title Overview, the Academic Program Coordinator responsibilities, include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating daily activities for the STAR Program. Provide information to incoming and contiuining students regarding college level programs, application process, courses and registration. Entering all student registration and add and drop course request in CUNYFirst. Maintaining and updating the Course Curriculum Laboratory Improvement Database.

  • Compiling data on program evaluation, enrollment, and retention in furtherance of the mission and academic goals of the STAR program .Assist in updating and maintaining documents and reporting information for the Early College Initiative (ECI) and Course Curriculum Laboratory Improvement (CCLI).

  • Coordinating with administrative offices on campus to assist students and faculty to obtain services.

  • Assisting with the hiring and reappointment processes for non-teaching adjunct staff, curriculum work group participants and college assistant. Assist new hires in submission of documents needed for Human Resource Services process.

  • Processing requisitions and payments for supplies and materials.

  • Assisting with supervision and training of office assistants

  • Coordinating logistics for meetings and special events including but not limited to orientation, tutoring sessions, workshops and seminars.


Bachelor's Degree required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service, organizational and communications skills

  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with attention to accuracy and detail

  • Ability to work with faculty, staff and students in a diverse environment

  • Knowledge or experience using Microsoft Office Suite

  • Knowledge or experience using a registration system

  • Knowledge or experience using e-appointment system

  • Must be able to work some evenings occasionally


Provides basic operational and analytical support related to a College's specialized academic program.

  • Supports the directors and managers with orientation preparation, student advisement regarding program requirements, and providing basic information about financial aid and registration

  • Manages office records including faculty files; prepares reports and surveys; collects and maintains statistical data on program activities

  • Serves as liaison to various College offices to provide service delivery and appropriate referrals to students

  • Collects and reviews syllabi to ensure compliance with standards

  • Serves as resource person for students and faculty regarding program policies and procedures

  • May supervise office operations and/or monitor department budget

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
