CUNY Adjunct Faculty Open Rank - Chemistry (Multiple Positions) in Brooklyn, New York


The Department of Chemistry, in the School of Natural and Behavioral Sciences at Brooklyn College, in the City University of New York, invites applications for adjunct faculty to begin in January 2019.

The Department of Chemistry has 17 full-time faculty and serves about 150 majors. The department teaches a variety of courses to students each semester. Most courses are 4 hours. Typically adjuncts teach one or two courses per semester.

Successful candidates will teach:

  • General Chemistry I (Chem 1050) lecture

  • Organic Chemistry for the Health Professions (Chem 2500) lecture and laboratory

  • Organic Chemistry I and II (Chem 3511, 3512, 3521, 3522) recitation and laboratory

  • and possibly other classes depending on education and experience.

  • Adjunct lecturers must have a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. A Master’s degree in relevant discipline is strongly preferred.

  • Adjunct Assistant, Adjunct Associate, and Adjunct Professors must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry.

  • All ranks require ability to teach, which can be demonstrated through classroom or other work experience. Three or more years’ experience in the classroom is preferred.
