FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of Twenty three colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. Named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education. Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community, currently enrolling 7,000 students in degree programs. Students represent 105 countries around the world! MEC students obtain Associate degrees in eight fields, and Baccalaureate degrees in 18 fields. The School of Liberal Arts and Education (SLAE) prepares students to achieve their highest academic and career goals through engagement in a learning community endowed with a rich and diverse Liberal Arts curriculum that fosters scholarly excellence, cultural awareness, and social responsibility. There is an immediate need for Adjuncts for the Department of Mass Communication. SLAE is seeking Adjuncts for the Fall 2018 semester to perform teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. They share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions. Candidates must be able to teach assigned courses and hold office hours.

Art History Candidates are being considered for Adjunct Lecturers and Adjunct Assistant Professors to teach our core art history course, Introduction to World Art, which covers from ancient to modern art both Western and non-Western.

Music History Candidates are being considered for Adjunct Lecturers and Adjunct Assistant Professors to teach our core music history course, Introduction to World Music, which covers from ancient to modern music both Western and non-Western.

Modern Dance Candidates are being considered for Adjunct Lecturers and Adjunct Assistant Professors to teach theory and practice courses such as Introduction to Modern Dance which provides the study and analysis of fundamental techniques of barre, adagio, and petite allegro. In addition, focus on the work of Katherine Dunham and her technique as well as other African-derived dances of Caribbean countries such as Brazil, Haiti, Jamaica, and Trinidad.

Theater Candidates are being considered for Adjunct Lecturers and Adjunct Assistant Professors to teach theory and practice courses such as Introduction to Modern Theatre with a background in staging , lighting and set design. African American theater and digital technology are some of the skill areas preferred.

Media Candidates are being considered for Adjunct Lecturers and Adjunct Assistant Professors to teach theory and practice courses such as Introduction to Broadcasting and Introduction to Television. Persons must be trained in the use of digital technology for both radio and television.

QUALIFICATIONS

For Adjunct Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor: MFA degree in area(s) of experience or Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise, along with related experience and achievements.

For Adjunct Lecturer: Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise

Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
