Brooklyn College solicits applications for Administrative Specialist in School Psychology, Counseling and Leadership (SPCL). Under the direction of the chairperson and with latitude for independent judgment, the Administrative Specialist manages the daily office administration of the SPCL program, which consists of three discrete accredited programs: School Psychology, School Counseling and Educational Leadership. The administrative Specialist will provide coordination for administrative and program activities for all three programs.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Administrative Specialist’s duties include but are not limited to:

  • Administers administrative and program activities including scheduling, registration, budgeting, reassigned time and workload, admissions, recruitment, events and facilities administration. Coordinate office renovations, repairs and relocations. Supervise part-time support staff.

  • Maintain files for faculty, staff and students, including: promotion and tenure files, student files, rosters, course syllabi and examination materials.

  • Collect, aggregate and organize department research data to support New York State Department of Education certifications, national accreditation activities (Middle States, AAQEP, National Association of School Psychology, Council of Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) and NYC Department of Education funding for the Educational Leadership program.

  • Create databases and maintain electronic data resources for faculty and students. Maintains department archive for annual department report. Process online New York State TEACH student certifications.

  • Review applications of prospective students based on program criteria, schedule candidate interviews and organize admissions processing. Work closely with the Office of Graduate Admissions to create more efficient admissions processes.

  • Coordinate program events and professional development activities for faculty, students and the education and psychology professional communities.

  • Participate in special events to include recruitment activities, professional development activities, student clubs, fundraising and alumni activities. Plan and organize department Graduate Awards and Honors ceremony. Manage financial arrangements and publicity. Collaborates with external stakeholders as required.

  • Design advertising tools, and reviews and recommends revisions to department Web site.

  • Coordinate activities with and assist the SPCL student government e-boards and SPCL alumni.

  • Work with department faculty-on department matters, including the organization of travel. Works with faculty to manage bilingual program cohort, reviews applicants, programming, scholarship students and certifications. Assist department committees with administrative matters.

  • Perform related duties as assigned by department chairperson.

Vaccine Mandate

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.

If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
