CUNY Admissions Advisor in Brooklyn, New York


Brooklyn College invites applications for an Admissions Advisor in the Department of Admissions. Reporting to the Senior Director of Admissions, the Admissions Advisor advises new and prospective students and their families, and participates in admissions activities, including but not limited to: open houses, information sessions, recruitment events and communications. Please note that some travel during peak recruitment periods is required for locations outside of New York City or New York State. A valid driver’s license is preferred for this position.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, duties include:

  • Conducts on-campus information sessions and serves as in-house admissions advisor for prospective students and families

  • Assists with graduate student admissions activities, including participation in on- and off-campus recruitment events to meet College enrollment goals. Manage caseload through in-person visits, emails, and phone

  • Coordinate a travel plan to colleges and partner organizations within assigned territory and occasionally outside of the New York area

  • Makes data-informed decisions utilizing a CRM, institutional data, and current trends in higher education

  • Coordinates communication on Brooklyn College’s admissions social media outlets. Assist with the creation of relevant campaigns and engages the target audience. Support the production of promotional materials.

  • Seeks and retains knowledge of best industry practices in graduate admissions and recruitment and applies this knowledge to everyday duties


  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in an Admissions office or Enrollment area setting

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Possess a sensitivity to the needs of a diverse campus population

  • Possess excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Experience using Hobsons Connect and ApplyYourself, and/or other standard higher education industry admissions and recruiting systems/tools

  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft and/or CUNYfirst, along and the aptitude to learn new systems

  • Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours as needed

  • Demonstrates communication skills, writing and public speaking ability, exemplary customer service skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with key constituents and prospects within assigned territory

  • Experience with events and local or regional travel planning

  • Knowledge of trends and best practices in the field of admissions, recruitment or enrollment management in general

  • Active working knowledge of college programs and opportunities and the ability to present this information to prospective students in all formats

  • Experience with social media outlets in regard to use in recruitment (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and be a proactive member of the admissions team

  • A valid driver’s license


Coordinates and contributes to student recruiting activities.

  • Conducts open house sessions and orientations to ensure applicants are fully informed of requirements and processes

  • Assists in direct recruiting at high schools, community outreach events, and other appropriate locations

  • Provides general information on programs and services in person or by telephone, email, or letter

  • Maintains current information about College programs and degree requirements

  • Performs related duties as assigned
