City Tech invites applications for a tenure-track position in Dental Hygiene to begin during the Fall 2018 academic semester. The Department currently offers an AAS degree in Dental Hygiene with day and evening sections. Successful candidates will join a growing team of faculty working to teach undergraduate courses and will teach across both sections as well as in area of specialization.

Dental Hygiene is located in the School of Professional Studies, a multi-disciplinary unit that also includes radiology, human services, nursing, and vision care. The position requires a commitment to teaching, scholarly research resulting in publications and presentations, sustained service to the department and college, and academic advisement. The candidate hired will be expected to participate actively in College/University-wide initiatives and function collaboratively in department level efforts, playing an active role in the creation, development, and assessment of department curricula. There is also possible involvement in a baccalaureate program, which is currently being developed.

Acceptance of the position will require that the candidate fulfill the following duties:

  • Provide didactic and clinical instruction

  • Integrate clinical and didactic education

  • Assess student progress in the classroom and clinic

  • Coordinate clinical policies and procedures, and evaluate outcome effectiveness

  • Cooperate with the program director in periodic review and revision of course materials

  • Maintain current knowledge of the practice of dental hygiene

  • Demonstrate experience using various educational methodologies and knowledge of college and program policies and procedures

  • Coordinate clinical schedules. In addition, this position may involve teaching in the evening section of the dental hygiene program, which includes Saturdays, and possibly summer and winter sessions. .


Masters in Dental Hygiene or a related field, current NYS RDH licensure, NYS certification in nitrous oxide analgesia/local anesthesia, current membership in the American Dental Hygienists Association, and two years’ college level teaching experience in a dental hygiene program.

The preferred candidate would possess recent clinical experience and the ability to inspire the next generation of dental hygienists. Research and publication are required for tenure and promotion.
