Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a full-time, entry-level, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of School Psychology, Counseling, and Leadership; Master’s Program in Educational Leadership with a starting date in August 2020.

The Department of School Psychology, Counseling, and Leadership is comprised of three graduate programs that prepare education professionals: school psychologists, school counselors, and school administrators. Faculty members from all three programs contribute equally to the work of the department.

This master's degree program prepares students for leadership careers in public and private pre-K-12 education. Students who successfully complete the three-semester, 36-credit program become simultaneously eligible for both the New York State School Building Leader (SBL) and School District Leader (SDL) certificates. The educational leadership program's curriculum is uniquely structured in both scope and sequence to combine small-group, cohort-based colloquiums with content in management and instructional leadership including courses in Supervision of Instruction, Curriculum Development, Personnel Management, Budgeting and Finance, School Law, School and Community Relations, and three semesters of closely-supervised and guided fieldwork experience consistent with local, state, and national standards.

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Teach graduate level courses in Educational Leadership

  • Conduct and publish findings of research within the field of Educational Leadership

  • Assume administrative duties including the role of Program Coordinator

  • Supervise student clinical experiences

  • Provide student guidance and mentorship

  • Participate in professional service at the department, school, college and national levels

  • Doctorate or other terminal degree in Educational Leadership or a related field of study from an accredited institution.

  • Ability to teach graduate courses and carry out administrative duties.

  • Interest in online teaching and learning


  • Relevant experience in graduate teaching and scholarship with a focus on urban schools and diverse communities in national, state, and/or local contexts;

  • Relevant leadership experience in schools and/or community settings; and

  • Relevant knowledge of current national, state, and local educational leadership standards and accreditation experience

  • Experience teaching or learning online


Salary commensurate with experience and credentials. All appointments are subject to financial availability.
