FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is a comprehensive college of over 17,000 students in downtown Brooklyn, offering associate and baccalaureate degree in technology and health related degree programs, other career-oriented degrees and liberal arts transfer degrees in its Schools of Arts and Sciences, Technology and Design, and Professional Studies. Human Services is located in the School of Professional Studies, a multi-disciplinary unit that also includes radiology, nursing, dental technology, and vision care. The Human Services Department trains students in the theory and practice of human services to become reflective practitioners and change agents, supporting multiple facets of health, while working from case to cause to have a positive impact on individuals, families, and communities. Accredited by the Council on Human Services Education, the department offers both associate and bachelor’s degrees.

We invite applications for 1-2 tenure track positions at the assistant professor level to begin during the 2018-2019 academic year.

Duties include:

  • Teach courses in the diverse segments of the Human Services curriculum including, but not limited to, research methods, individual, group, family counseling, health of vulnerable populations, child welfare, substance use disorders, criminal justice, mental health, community organization, internship and management concepts.

  • Day, evening, and weekend teaching and department duties may be required.

  • Faculty members in the department are expected to engage in research, grant writing, program development, recruitment, advisement, online teaching, and field internship, as well as department, college, university and community service.

  • Continued professional growth and scholarly contributions to the field are expected.

The department provides mentoring and support for research, scholarship, and publication as part of our commitment to ongoing faculty professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Other qualifications: Candidates must have a doctorate in hand at the time of appointment. We are especially interested in applicants offering any or all of the following:

  • Significant employment in the human services, social work, public health or related field

  • Experience in supervisory/director positions in community-based agencies

  • Teaching experience in higher education degree programs related to human services

  • A record of publications and other professional development activities
