FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty three colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. Named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education.

Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community, currently enrolling 7,000 students in degree programs. Students represent 105 countries around the world! MEC students obtain Associate degrees in 8 fields, and Baccalaureate degrees in 18 fields. They are instructed by over 208 Full-time dedicated faculty members who must maintain a portfolio of scholarship and research. To meet the needs of its students, the College offers courses and programs at various times, is growing their online program offerings, and in offsite locations. The College is committed to a student-centered education and advancing knowledge through scholarly research.

The Department of Mass Communications at Medgar Evers College invites all eligible applicants to the call for Assistant Professor of Speech, Theater & Dance beginning fall 2023. The successful candidate’s practices may include such areas as Acting, Dance, animation, 3-D modeling, interactive/web based media within the scope of the B.F.A curriculum in Media and the Performing Arts. He or she will offer introductory and upper level courses in a broad- based digital and physical setting by bolstering the curriculum with more specialized courses. The department especially encourages applications from individuals whose interests match the interdisciplinary approach which include, but not limited to: Speech Theatre, Dance and Film Studies. Duties of the position include teaching three courses per semester at all levels and supervision of undergraduate creative production. The successful candidate is expected to show a record of active studio, stage performances, digital media exhibition and so forth and to be committed to teaching undergraduate students in a B.F A. in a Liberal Arts College. He or She will perform teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise and shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required is the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Preferred: Applicants should have earned a terminal degree or its equivalent including: D.F.A., M.F.A., Ed.D., Ph.D. by the time of employment. Previous teaching experience is critical. The department has no full-time faculty in this field of specialty.

COMPENSATION

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

$75,465 - $86,645
