FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY), located in in downtown Brooklyn, is a comprehensive college offering 60 associate and bachelor’s degree programs. The Nursing Department at City Tech invites applications for Chairperson of the Nursing Department, with a faculty appointment at the associate or full professor level, depending upon qualifications. The appointment begins in spring or fall 2023.
The Nursing Department is part of the School of Professional Studies, a multi-disciplinary unit that also includes business, career and technical teacher education, radiology, human services, dental technology, and dental hygiene. The Nursing Department currently offers an AAS degree in Nursing, leading to the RN, and a BS in Nursing (completion program). Serving nearly 400 students, the faculty includes 16 full-time faculty members and a strong pool of adjunct clinical faculty. The Department Chair serves as the academic and administrative leader and provides vision and leadership for the department in alignment with the mission and strategic goals of the College and of CUNY.
The position reports to the Dean of the School of Professional Studies. The Department Chair has overall responsibility for the management of the department. Responsibilities of the departmental chairperson include implementing departmental policies; presiding at department meetings; overseeing the recruitment, hiring, guidance, evaluation, reappointment, and promotion of faculty members; managing the departmental budget; overseeing curriculum and curricular changes; preparing class schedules; assigning teaching and administrative responsibilities to faculty members; and maintaining departmental records. In the Nursing Department, ensuring compliance with the standards of the New York State Education Department and the accrediting agency, ACEN, is essential.
Master's degree in Nursing and a current license to practice nursing in the State of New York or eligibility for licensure in New York. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. A track record of scholarship and teaching are required for the rank of Associate or full Professor.
A Doctorate is preferred. Professional certification and/or licensure in a specialty area in nursing is encouraged. Preference will be given to candidates who have five or more years of experience in administrative/academic positions of increasing responsibility and leadership, as well as a record of collaboration and demonstrated knowledge of best practices in nursing education.
Candidates should provide evidence of academic/professional contributions that qualify them for appointment at the associate or full professor rank. The Department Chair should have demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff to foster academic change and growth, a commitment to professional education, and an understanding of the complexities of health care in the 21st Century. The candidate must have a strong commitment to the goals of public higher education.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

Professor: $83,878 - $104,057
