New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college offering 60 associate and bachelor’s degree programs in downtown Brooklyn, invites applications for a full-time Higher Education Assistant (HEa) position in the Department of Nursing located in the School of Professional Studies. The School of Professional Studies comprises ten departments, five of which are directly related to healthcare delivery: Dental Hygiene, Health Sciences, Human Services, Nursing, Radiologic Technology and Medical Imaging, and Restorative Dentistry.

The Nursing Department at City Tech is part of the School of Professional Studies, a multidisciplinary unit that also includes radiology, human services, dental technology, and vision care. The Department of Nursing currently offers an AAS and BS in Nursing, the latter for registered nurses. Nursing faculty teach across both curricula in didactic and clinical as well as in their area of specialization. Both the AAS and BS degree programs are fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and is approved by the New York State Education Department.

The primary responsibilities of this position are to manage a diverse portfolio of academic advisement resources, targeted at the college’s population of Health and Human Services students, and to assist in the clinical onboarding process within the Department of Nursing.The Clinical Placement Specialist provides overall coordination of all student clinical onboarding activities, and reports directly to the chair of the Department of Nursing.

Duties include the following:

  • Monitor contracts, and submit all requisite student paperwork to clinical facilities for clinical placements.

  • Supervise student placements to ensure adherence to all applicable College and government policies and regulations, including HIPAA and FERPA.

  • Assist with the facilitation of periodic new student orientations and present on clinical requirements

  • Schedule faculty and students to attend mandatory hospital orientations, HIPAA training, online in-service and computerized training and maintain compliance with hospital requirements

  • Communicate with nurse educators and/or placement coordinators in hospitals and clinics to develop clinical placements, using a variety of communication modalities

  • Calculate number of student-placements per semester required for each of the courses with a clinical component.

  • Identify facility requirements at each clinical placement location, such as orientation and Electronic Health Record (EHR) training, communicate these clinical entry requirements to instructors and student groups in a timely manner, and document these requirements within departmental records. Ensure that these requirements are updated to reflect any changes in hospital policy.

  • Confirm placements with nurse educators and/or placement coordinators in health care facilities via timely follow-up communications.

  • Communicate confirmed or changed clinical placement agreements with appropriate parties, such as chair, director, instructors, campus program coordinators and students for all undergraduate placements in the nursing majors (RN & BSN)

  • Attend Placement Coordinator meetings at health care facilities throughout the NYC Metro area as they occur.

  • Ensure that students and faculty health records and contracts are uploaded into the designated departmental system.

  • Communicate with all nursing students and faculty on an ongoing basis to ensure that each student’s records are up to date, including sending notifications when specific requirements are not met.

  • Other relevant duties as assigned by the chair


Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related area, and four years related experience.

Preference will be given to candidates with excellent communication and organization skills, experience with modern computer-based productivity tools, including social media and other online communication, as well as knowledge about U.S. healthcare systems.


Supports an academic internship program providing career development and professional work experience.

  • Acts as liaison between the College and employer sponsors, monitoring the success of students' internship experiences

  • Supervises student internships, assuring adherence to related College and governmental policies and regulations

  • Creates and conducts orientation sessions and workshops for students in the internship program; coordinates applications, interviews, and placement as part of overall student outreach

  • Provides faculty orientation and development related to internship programs

  • Implements and evaluates competencies and other success factors

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
